why some people have 2 horses?

I have two as my mare was written off with a tendon injury and retired, so I brought an 18 month old filly to bring on and replace her - now my mare has decided that she would quite like to come sound thank you very much and is back in work.

Honestly I'd rather have one for time and expensive, but now I have the two, I adore them both and wouldn't be without them. Plus whilst my mare is sound now and doing OK (beyond mine and my vet's expectations), she is 15, so even if she stays sound by the time the filly is old enough to be really doing proper full time work, my mare will deserve a quieter life I feel.

Plus for the first time in owning my mare, I can always feel relaxed that she has companionship in her field and won't be left on her own at random times without my knowledge (livery yards!!).

I never dreamed I would end up with two horses, but apart from the expense which is a bit "eek", I love it.

Not sure I would have time to have two in full time work though.

I originally wanted a foal from my mare but she was getting too old - so i bought a foal with the idea that once he's ready to break then my mare will be retiring which is the plan :) but i wanted to start from the beginning with a horse so that i knew that if he had any bad habbits or anything there was only me to blame :)

I have 3 currently - 2 of those are my very first ponies so they are retired veterans living out their days (never sold them on as they have various health issues). The 3rd horse is my competition horse. Up until last year I always had 2 or 3 competition horses on the go, usually because I love competing and I find I can do more different disiplines with different horses. For example the past 5 years I had a young Welsh D who I competed in M&M workers and RC stuff, and I also had my current horse (total opposite, TB x) who BSJA's and BE's. Now I'm only down to one, its very strange! I dont compete every single weekend as I feel its unfair on my horse.

i have 3 my first girly ive had for 10 years shes now 15 then i got my wee pony as a companion for her i do bsja so i then decided i wanted to get a youngster to bring on give my older mare a bit of a break so i bought my dw mare as a 4yr old last year i couldnt get rid of any of them there my babies plus i work full time but there at home so makes life a little easier

i have 6. toby is my very first homebred out of my first 14h2 who i owned for 17yrs before we lost her so he is going nowhere altought he is my ridden and competition horse. then there is skye who was my competition horse who i decieded to take a foal or to of her while i was at uni last year she had a filly who is now 15 months ellie, then i put her back in foal and 6 weeks ago had a colt fergus who will be sold. she is back in foal for next year i then i have my little welsh a who is on loan to my friend and finaly i have another broadmare who i have at the moment belonging to a frien d who i am trying to put in foal if she is in foal then she will be with my until foal is weaned if not she will go back to her owner.

i have as many horses because i have my own place and i want a herd of horses and i can afoard them

I have three! One is my first pony. He is 14.2 so I can still ride him, he just isn't really a challenge to ride anymore but I love him too much and could never sell him so he is with me for life. Then there's my mum's horse, but as my mum only hacks, I get to ride him and school him and finally, we rescued a little Welsh mare last year so she is just a pet. :)

I have 3 one a companion, one ridden and one youngster. The whole reason for buying the youngster was due to health issues with older one and wanted something to have to ride in a few years time that didnt come with man made issues like other one had.

I have two because I compete at endurance at distances of 65k +. Strictly speaking you are only meant to compete once a month at these distances so if you want to compete more often then you need two horses.

I did have three competing but it was hard work training them all to that level so sold one of them.

i have my old boy and when he went lame and retired i bought my youngster. now my youngster will never jump again so i'm on the hunt for a 3rd one. i draw the line at 3 though!

I have 2 because one of them was my daughters, she gave up riding about 2 years ago, i battled with my head over wether to sell him or keep him, but he is now 10 and has a sharer 3 days a week, a young girl who is the daughter of another livery on my yard, so he gets to stay where he is happiest, i could never send him out on loan, but i know the day might come where i have to reconsider selling him again, although it would break my heart.
