why was William Whitaker not competing at HOYS?

If you'd read my post on Sunday "Other Brits abroad" you would have seen that he was competing in Salzburg.

Indeed...he is currently 'only' ranked 18th and it's the highest 10 who get invited...plus 4 wildcard entries are allocated to people from two qualifying shows *Towerlands and Arena UK).
The only thing i'm not sure of though is how Ellen Whitaker got to go...as she's only ranked 13th and as far as i can see the only rider inside the top 10 who didn't ride was Michael Whitaker due to his suspension. Will Funnell was obviously there in his place as he is ranked 11th

Blimey, do the Whittakers have to be in the correct ranking to get in ?? I would have thought its their names that pull some of the crowds in and they get special invites.
Anyway, at least this year Ellen proved she was worthy of the invite

I've just checked the relevant BSJA Ranking List and Ellen did not need a special invitation. She was 12th on that list and came up to 10th place because of Michael still being suspended and Robert Smith opting to jump in Oslo.
