i found another solution. i sold ignorant grey and bought much less ignorant dark bay . i still ride him in spurs tho...

I am glad you put that, because I was thinking that the grey horse was perhaps his own worst enemy in the 'jabbing with the spurs' stakes!
I have a very well built ID that marks if you so much as pat her too hard, I found spurs with rowels mark less on her because she pays more attention and they can be used sparingly.

oh yes definitely his own worst enemy. god that horse was frustrating. his new owners think he's an angel
