Why would someone do this?

Yep another that someone has tried to stung with this one. Sold a Superdry jacket, it was quite expensive when bought & hardly worn so in fantastic condition. I got a decent price for it.
Buyer claimed the jacket had 2 burn marks on it that had come from an iron. WTF! Who irons a coat?
They went for a partial refund. I offered a full refund if they returned the item - I even offered to pay for recorded delivery for it to come back (I didn't want it to *miraculously* go missing in the post) yes that cost me more money but I would've rather have lost that than give them the satisfaction TBH.

Amazingly buyer then claimed the burns were just 'marks' that he had managed to sponge off....funny that ;)

I'd tell them that I'd written on the inside in a blacklight pen, and you'll check this when it's returned. Hopefully that will make them think twice about sending you a different rug!

My sister recently sold a coat on eBay for 50 pounds. Two days later she was messaged by a MAN saying that he wanted his money back because the coat was an "evening" coat and not a winter coat, therefore not suitable for his purpose (wtf). He has also opened a case. Some people are redicilous.

Very good and clever point about rug being marked on inside. I do hope the buyer backs down, there are some wicked people out there at times, I've never heard of this type of scam on EBay before. I'll certainly think twice before selling anything again...

I would do as everyone else has said and stand firm

I sold a new Joules top a couple of years ago and the buyer made all kinds of wild accusations, that it wasn't the size I stated in my advert (it had all the labels) and then that it must be counterfeit! It really did stress me out a lot.

As someone else has said if you haven't had it long hopefully you still have proof of the original purchase which if bought online will include the size etc.

Call the buyers bluff, provide your evidence, pictures and proof of original purchase and don't let them get away with their scam!

I would also make sure that you can show/evidence your purchase so the receipt links to the pictures of the item you sold, that should have the size on it too.

I have found Preloved pretty good for selling horse rugs and its free.

Yes I agree.

Seems very odd size wise and that a while later its ripped. Careful they don't do some damage. Rambo rugs are tough! Why a refund of £70 if its ripped? Hmmm chancer..... Who knows the system. Can you look at their feedback to see if they do this on a regular basis.

I had a preloved person ( only one) who wanted a jacket, fitted her little boy perfect........ Oh apart from the ripped seams.... She would come to a agreement re price........ Got it back with cut seams and a hole made intentionally in the jacket. Not impressed.

We had this happen to us recently. Lady opened up a dispute and left negative feedback without contacting us. eBay were sympathetic to us but yet ended up refunding the woman ALL her money AND kept the item. I watched this woman on and off for a while, and noticed that it started to become a hobby for her, ripping people off - she's now been banned

My friend is currently going through the same thing

I now refuse to sell on eBay, and stick to buying instead :(

eBay disgusts me the way it treats sellers. I think negative feedback should be left for buyers, I had an idiot bid and win a rug I had put on there but wanted to come and collect it which wasn't possible due to myself working away. They refused to pay the postage saying they couldn't afford it so i said they could cancel their bid, left bad feedback for me saying I wanted more money for the rug yet they got away with being a non payer, now I keep getting annoying emails from eBay saying my selling performance is below standards because of that 1 negative feedback! I did vent at eBay but it made no difference, even forwarded on the abusive emails I got regarding the rug and nothing was ever done.

OP hope you manage to get it all sorted
