[ QUOTE ]
i can only tell you the bit i know i am not the owner of this horse all i came on here to say is the horse isnt abused but obviously you cant exept both sides to the story and everybody on here wants to attack me like they attacked my friend.

I appreciate you are being loyal to your friend.
I do think she was a little naieve thinking she could post a photo of a horse in such poor condition, with no explanatory text, in an advert, and not raise comment.
Perhaps you could advise her to check he is wormed (tapeworm and small redworm particularly), has his teeth rasped (by a vet or a qualified EDT).
You could also suggest she contact one of the nutrition companies - I find Dodson and Horrell particularly helpful, and ask for an appropriate feeding ration calculated to help him gain weight.
She'd get a better home for him if he looked good in advert photos - as you say she is a loving owner, I am sure this is important to her.

i never made a threat against prittstick i made an ignorant comment about someone i didnt know just like the rest of you on this forum the threat was actually made by you saying i would end up in hot water if you think i am scared of your reactions or your comments then think again cos i am the only one on here who has got balls!

Oh please spare me, you're not important enough to me to give a toss. My concern is the state that your friend's horse is in and more to the point why

im not saying you dont have the right to defend her - its just pretty defenceless when you cant answer the questions!? You cannot justify the poor pics or the state of the horse!

well i am not a qualified vet so i dont know why he isnt putting any weight on or muscle!

I have been following this thread with interest

What I cannot understand is why, if you are a friend of the advertiser, you dont know why the horse isn't putting weight/muscle on?

Surely your friend is extremely concerned about her horse being in that condition, and has been talking to her friends about the steps she has taken (veterinary attention etc) to improve the horses condition?

When my dog was extremely thin I was desperate to get her condition improved, and asked everyone and anyone for their advice and suggestions. I also had 3 lots of blood tests done, took the dog for weekly or fortnightly trips to the vet, etc.

But then I wouldnt have sold my elderly dog AT ALL, let alone in that condition

i am her FRIEND why should i know why he isnt putting any weight or muscle on and we have had vet attention and it isnt any of your business what the vet said so dont ask!

so then why are you even in this forum if you dont give a care.

[/ QUOTE ]

why are you on this forum when you haven't any FACTS??

I am sorry if the posts on this thread have offended you, your friend and upset her children. But, pictures of an elderly horse, in very very poor condition for sale is enough to provoke comment and upset horse lovers on this forum.

Surely you can understand that the horse is not fit for sale.

Even younger, healthier horses find moving to new owners very stressful, and this poor horse, at 18 would surely have a tough time. (and he looks much older than 18 by the way) He doesn’t even look like he’d make a long journey in a lorry!

We are a group of people who love horses on this forum and are entitled to our opinions, and like you, we also have balls when it comes to speaking up for horses. And it seems to be that the collective opinion is that this horse is not fit enough for sale. We are not saying this horse has been neglected/abused etc, we are saying that it is unfair to the horse to offer it for sale in such a poorly condition.

The owner should be ashamed of putting this poor animal up for sale and you should be ashamed of sticking up for her.

So what is the horse being fed at the moment? Is it on good quality grazing? If not, is it being fed good quality hay/haylage adlib? Is it on a conditioning feed, fed at the recommended amounts for a horse of that size?

How long has she had the horse and has it always been that thin?

So does your friend know what is wrong with her horse?

Oh do grow up, and stop being so bloody rude.

I explained clearly in my post why I thought you might know about the reasons for the horse not putting on condition - you are her friend, and friends talk about these things, ask advice, swap ideas etc. Although apparently not in this case.

I am glad your friend has had the vet out to the horse, if it were my animal it would be receiving ongoing veterinary attention, and I wasn't intending to ask what the vet had said.

Nibble123. On this forum we are all supportive of one another, and our primary concern is for horses. We appreciate that we do not have the background information on this horse and this has been clearly stated from the very beginning of this post. What we debate is why this horse is for sale in the first place, looking so skinny, in the middle of summer. All we were worried about was the horse's welfare. Cleary you and your friend are worried about the horse too, so we have somehting in common. You seem to have as many facts about this issue as us, and yet from the very first post you have been provocative, and taking things very personally. All we are worried about is this horse. If as you say he is receiving adequate care, then there must be a medical reason for his weight loss, and if this is so, surely the owner has a duty to incvestigate this as fully as possible so as to ensure that they tell any potential purchaser of health issues? If this horse was to be sold in this state to a novice, then surely his conditon could go downhill, and both you and your friend may have to suffer a painful loss. There are plenty of charities who will be able to help your friend if she needs a new home for him quickly. We hope that she did not suffer too much from our posts and that you both understand we were only concerned about the horse. Saying pritstick needs jumping lessons makes you come across as immature. Talk about this with us, and we can offer plenty of help and support for your friend. Good luck.

This thread just appears to be going round in circles!!

Nibble123 - I understand why you feel the need to defend your friend but I'm sure you can also understand why people have raised the issue of the horses condition.

I do however find it difficult to understand why you are defending your friends actions when you have admitted that you don't know much about the horses issues or how she is addressing them - I'm not saying that you should know but it just seems odd that you are so strongly defending her - I have many friends with horses but just because they are my friend does not mean that I agree with how they care for their horses - you are allowed to disagree around these things - especially when the welfare of the horse is being jepordised.

I think the best think for all is to report this to the RSPCA and allow them to deal with it - if there is a genuine problem with the horse the owner (or her friend) is under no obligation to explain themselves to use but it would be irresponsible of them not to include this info in the ad.

Actually it may have been removed as I emailed Horsemart yesterday who offered to review the advert. I hope this has a happy outcome for the horse.

This has really irritated me.
Just because you are a FRIEND, and claim this woman loves the horse, does NOT excuse it's condition.
If she really cared for it, she would not be trying to sell it and pass it's problems on to somebody else.

This seems to be a sorry tale:

Riding Horse. Weight drops off to the point of looking RSPCA case. Call the vet. He/she hasn't found out what's wrong yet, so what should we do?

I know - let's sell it.

And this horse is much loved? I don't think so.

Ive got a 28 yearold pony with cushings, liver damage and no front teeth that looks far better then that horse did. I'd rather have him PTS then sell him as the only way is down for him now and I as a caring horse owner could not do that to him concidering how much this pony has done for me.

If your friend truely cared about the horse she would not be selling him. She would either find the reason the pony is thin and then put weight on the horse, or if it is impossible to put the weight on then she would have the horse PTS.
