D has just moved into a new part of the field because i have decided that she can't make herself fat with what is left in the grass and I want to rest the top section.

Being the diligent owner that I am I thought that I'd check the water trough in the lower half of the field in case it needed cleaning. There was thick ice on the top so I broke it with my boot and turned the trough over for it to run out. As I turned it there was a really horrendous smell and out flowed a dead blackbird!

Have found a dead toad once before as well.

Anyone else find things in their troughs?

The worst thing I ever found poo picking was a muddy pair of blue nylon y-fronts

I've found a live hawk/kestrel in the trough before. Oiked it out with a bucket as was worried it might peck me to death!

Also found a very dead snake at the bottom of the trough all mixed up in the leaves.

And my horses still prefer to drink out of the field trough than the water bucket. Yuk!

I've found dead pigeons, and a crow once. Oh and a poor little thirsty mouse!
I found this morning (although not in the water trough) the most beautiful deer, poor little guy had starved to death having got his antlers stuck between the brambles in the hedge and the wire fencing, and his chin wedged on a pile of wood. Poor chap must have been there for ages and it cant have been more than a few weeks ago that he died. He's in fantastic condition, lovely coat on him (what's left). I really want to move him though because when he falls apart I'll be left with a deer skull wedged in the hedge!

mice and birds, if i saw a dead frog i would faint, i am petrafied of them, i am known to of had full blown paninc attacks at seeing them

a fish?? how on earth did that find its way into a water trough?

ive found a pigeon before and a squirrel sadly drowned.

ive also found just a foxes skull when mucking the field out once - no other bits to it. very bizarre!

One morning my gelding was acting terrified of the water trough, when I checked it the electric wire round the field had broken and was in the trough ! I had to give him water in buckets for weeks until he got over the trauma !

Ugh yuck.

I found a drowned squirrel once too. Now I always float a piece of planking in all my troughs as I often see the birds trying to drink from them and hate to think of anything struggling to stay afloat until it is exhausted, horrid way to die.

We have goldfish in our troughs...because:
*they are pretty
*They eat mankey green stuff
*the horses don't always swallow them
*The ones we win at point-to-point but my parents won't let us keep.

I've found some horrible things at my old yard, I'm really funny about dead things, I get ina panic and can't go near them

Found half a fox there once, god knows what happened there, and found an animals fur, it had been skinned but not sure what it was, it looked like a cat
