Yes, even worse when it's little ponies.
 
Weve had several youngsters over the last 25yrs, never would we concider backing at less three and a half, and then literally just sitting for awhile and a little walk, no more until the fourth year, it damages the still growing joints. Our friend has a pony who was ridden at two he was permenantly lame by the time he was 10yrs old, its not at the time you see the damage but later. This pony has permenant back and leg problems caused by doing too much too soon.
I have also noticed an increase in the youngsters backed at two, i think its disgusting and always complain to the owner of the site as it just encourages these very ignorant people to do more younger, its totally wrong. They do it for MONEY a backed horse costs more than an unbacked one.
