I have just seen a horse with a market harborough, a standing martingale and a dropped noseband on. I get the use of the each thing individually but together i'm totally flumoxed. I'm not wearing my judgy pants but am genuinely interested in discovering why you would team all of these gadgets together.

just a drop, and the bit looked like a liverpool driving bit. It's from a series of photos on FB (yeah i know root of all evil!) and owner has written they were about to go on a hack.

That's a bit of an extreme tack set up to use for just hacking ! Poor horse
A standing martingale should NEVER be attached to anything other than a cavesson, that's where the flash noseband originally stemmed from. For horses that needed a drop AND a standing martingale, (in really old hunting/showjumping photos, you used to see horses wearing a drop and a cavesson noseband, that was in the days before the flash noseband). As for using the MH AND standing martingale, the martingale would interfere with the correct action of the market harborough.
I'm not having a go at you OP :), but that person needs to learn how to use tack properly for the horses sake.
