Hello, hoping for some advice! Unhandled cob i got august finally got a name...Moomin! He is turning into a complete super star and as hes been getting fitter ive been spending more time in the saddle. The problem is he is the widest horse i have ever sat on and after about 1/2 an hour i can feel my (always been slightly dodgy) right leg curling up, resulting in it sliding backwards. Annoying and no good. Now i know this is my hips, so wondered if there are any suggestions for ways i can loosen them off, on the horse or off him!

And some pictures...just to show him off really, but it will give you an idea!

He is beautiful! I'm not sure how helpful I can be but I have a wide Highland and recently struggled with knee problems (on a Connie, who is not even as wide as the Highland). I had 3 private physio sessions and what a difference, almost no knee pain at all. I think pilates and yoga are good for general flexibility, strength and conditioning but a physio would be able to advise you on more specific exercises. In my case, I had an x-ray and was referred to physio through the NHS but the waiting list was too long and I went private to speed up the process as I have iffy knees from years of swimming competitive breaststroke. Wishing you the best of luck!

Physio is definitely the way to go. First to make sure you are not going to aggravate a problem and also to give you some appropriate exercises to help you adjust without hurting yourself.
