As title really!

I'm looking for suggestions for my horse who has wide withers yet a flat back, he's a WB. i'm considering a SC saddle?? currently have an SLK ultima which just isn;t working as panels too banana like for him so 1/4 of the panel isnt even in contact with his back!

any suggestions greatly recieved

I used to have a Passier Grand Gilbert on my flat backed and slab sided old boy, never moved, but was ery narrow through the twist which may not suit you as a rider.

I tried a sc dressage saddle a few years ago. Don't know if they are the same now but I found it flat through the seat, wide through the twist and generally uncomfortable! Apparently at the time they were built on a GP tree, so not really a "proper" dressage saddle. Also you'd want to buy new to ensure it was flat through the tree as I think you'd need a rear gusset and difficult to find out if one has one if buying 2nd hand. Like I say I don't know if they are different now but I personally wouldn't bother looking (and I am, for exactly the same thing as you!).

Saddles im looking at are ideal on an H&C tree, possibly an old Albion legend. Still looking into other alternatives!

We have 3 wide horses; a cart horse, a new forest and a connemara and they each have a Black Country Eloquence made to template. They do a standard tree or a cob tree which is flatter with more space for a wide wither.

A saddle for a cob should be a little wider and flatter - a very narrow twist of very deep seat is unlikely to work. I fit cobs and natives as my specialism - I do only fit one brand, do me me if you'd like iunfo.

You need, as I kind of said, a saddle that has a decent flat spot and a medium to wide twist, flat semi-close contact panels, an open head to the tree (upside down U rather than V) and a point strap, ideally four straps to choose the best (unstitch those you don't use).

I have a jeffries on my boy and a friends horse had a passier. Both had very similar sounding backs to your horse.

I had an Albion style, really good lovely flat panels but lovely comfy Albion seat, worked on my old boy, but he has since retired, it is now for sale if interested? (probably not meant to say that on here)
