Wee fella went lame today, but a bit stumped as to why.
warmed up in walk fine for a few minutes and started some trott work. he felt a bit stumbly. Worked a bit further and it felt like he was trying to strike off in canter. thought he might be feeling a bit bright so put him up into canter no problems. went back to where we started and was even more stumbly on the transition to trott.
Then in trott and only on the left rein he hopped on his back outides leg every 3 or so paces.
Got off and had a feel around. No swelling or heat in any tendon.
No heat in the hooves . He was happy to let me feel all around all the structuures of his legs and showed no signs of discomfort for anything I moved or squeezed.
Happy to articulate fetlock, hock and stifle.
trotted up in a straight line on hard surfaface.
On the lunge I could see a kind of stringholty type action in his back right hoof when it was on the outside, on the other rein he skimmed the school surface but was other wisehappy.
He is 5 1/2 yrs and did quite a bit of work last weekend, I'm hoping it's just a tweek , but it looks very odd.
Hamstrings are not tight.
Any ideas?
