Flys were bad today so decided to put his new Shires fly mask on. Loved his new mask as it has great vision through the mesh as some I think seem to limit the vision and the spooky boy wouldnt cope with that :)
The sun was out and I led him from the stable to the field and he was awful, jumping all over, spooking at nothing and on top note. Got to his field and thought no way Im letting him go with the mask on as he was acting really wierd, so I took it off and he instantly returned to normal. He always wore a mask last year with no problem. I put the mask to my head and with the sun on it the material was shiny which made it sort of reflect making funny shadows. All I can presume is this is what the problem was. I will try his old one on again to see. The Shires one was a fraction of the price of his other so a bit gutted really.
Anyones horse reacted funny to fly masks?

Lil certainly doesn't like her fly mask. She walks along like she can't see where she's going. could you try washing it to see if you can make it less shiny? Maybe its got a coating on it.

my horse likes his shires black one, he also has another one which is a thicker white mesh, but he cant see out of it properly , I wasnt laughing honest when i saw him go the wrong side of the gate looks marginally drunk to get into his feild, suffice to say he wears his shires

One of mine reacted in this way to her shires one, it was one with silver mesh and blue fleece around the edges - I felt she seemed a bit like she was blind so presumed that she couldn't see very well through it. The shetland never had a problem with hers but then she has a very long forelock that covers her eyes quite a lot so it probably wasn't any different!

It did have ears but she managed to rip them off!!

My horse has the pale blue shires full face mask and he isnt keen on having it put on but once its on hes perfectly happy, maybe it is a bit shiney for them when teh fabric moves? which would explain why my horse is fine once its secure!
My other horses are fine though!

Glad we arent alone :)
Hes fine when I put them on, must have been the material. It was the black one with removable nose piece. Back to the Equilibrum Field relief mask then I think. Have to buy a new one now cos he chewed the ear off his old one when I left it in his stable by mistake.
