I have become increasingly aware of my wiggly feet when I am doing rising trot. They are not moving forward and back - but in and out. Now I have noticed this it is all I can notice when I am riding.

Please can someone help me to stop this!

Glass of bubbly and twiglets on offer for help :)

Shorten your stirrups a hole or two.....Sounds like you are reaching for them when you rise and are therefore not putting enough weight down through your legs to you heel and ball of foot.

Once shortened do some 2 point position in trot (like you are going over a jump) and push your weight through your leg to get the feeling and correct balance!

This can sometimes happen if you rely on your feet and stirrups to push up. Try rising by raising your hips slightly up and forwards instead of standing in your stirrups.

Rising without stirrups may help

Thank you both

TandD - I do have an incredibly annoying habit of drawing my heels up which would sound right to what you have suggested. I shall get doing some light seat work in trot :)

Wheels - this is also interesting, and I shall also be giving this a go. Would the rising without stirrups not encourage gripping with the knees though?

Thanks Tiddlypom - unfortunately I cannot blame a break in riding, although this last few months we have been pushing ourselves much further than we thought possible, which is I think why the wiggly feet have become so apparent to me!

I do have Sprenger bow balance stirrups too - which I find fantastically comfy - but I did start to wonder whether they could be making me worse?

You shouldn't grip with your knees, you should wrap your lower leg around the horse, don't try to rise, try to swing your pelvis forward
