Wild horses...

Very much agree about the stallion's input. A friend of mine always puts her weaned colts out with her stallion over the winter and he is wonderful with them, as was my stallion with babies.

LOL :) My mare couldn't wait to hand over baby-sitting duties over to the stallion (after the first week when she was very protective). It's such a joy to watch them being a family. I know there is some weaning talk on another thread at the moment, but I found weaning so easy. Mare gets fed up, stallion takes on even more responsibility and then when it gets a little too playful, it's time to move on - although I must admit they were going on yearlings. This is my ideal scenario, not everyone can or has the facilities to do it.

ETA: This is just my preference and there are people out there handling many more youngsters than me daily with much more experience and most probably better results. Just to say there are different courses for different horses.

We are thinking about separating them, at least while training, as Brandon keeps on hiding behind the coloured 2 year old Hugo -doesn't make things easy! However, Hugo has been handled and is soo laid back, he does set a good example. Whenever Hugo gets food Brandon gets jealous and pokes his nose in, so he's starting to get the hang of things
