Wilkie bits for strong ponies?

Anyone got any experience of using a wilkie. I've been lent one by a friend as our pony can be very strong. He's just 12hh and a welshie but can get very strong when ridden in his snaffle. He's normally ridden by a 9 year old child who is not that strong and he's starting to make her a bit nervous when he picks up the pace. We've not tried this bit yet as thought I'd get others experiences first. Thanks in advance for any replies.

My child used one on her last pony for a bit with great success - New pony is really forward going but didn't like it, I have her in hanging cheek and flash.
bits are really just try and see in my opinion.

I maybe wrong, but I'm sure I heard (I do dream things up sometimes though!

) that wilkies are banned in pony club or riding clubs as of there fairly harsh nature

as far as I am aware they are fine for PC - I tell you you see some bitting sights at PC - wobbly kids with american gags and many a contentental gag can be seen??

We used to show our first ridden ponies in wilkie bits and they do a great job, pony club might look at them with disdain but worth a go!

I use a neue schule beval which is similar to a wilkie and my mare goes great in it. Similar action to a drop snaffle.
