Sorry for my ignorance but this is my first foal so I haven't experienced the colour changes before. He is 15 weeks today and is a bit moth-eaten as he's losing his teddy bear coat. Underneath is quite a dark brown - not as red as the dam who is a very bright bay. His mane is dark brown and his tail is striped. I had assumed he would be the same colour as her. What do people think? Is this a normal transition stage for a bright bay? Here are pics of mare and foal.

Is your foal shedding her coat? What colour is she underneath? Similar to her mum? Your mare looks to be a darker bay than mine but may be the photo. Does your foal still have a striped tail? Reilly's is still very white on either side - brown in the middle. His mane is mainly brown too. His body coat seems to be coming through quite a dull mid brown but perhaps will redden gradually.

yeh ellie is shedding her coat. she is bright bay underneath. her dad was chestnut. she has a brownie black mane with her striped tail although i expect this might eventually grow out.
