Will I get marked down in an exracer class for my orange saddle? *pic*

Finally back out competing (well sort of) with Soap this Sunday easing him back in after 'bum-gate' with a Prelim and retrained exracehorse class at a local show. Now I'm no fan of showing but will do my best to get him looking tip top, wash and plait up etc but I only have my ORANGE jump saddle to go in, will I get marked down for this?...

I would think with it not being a strictly orthodox show class like working hunter or m&m that we should be ok?...

I am going to put studs in as he doesn't like working on grass without them - is that ok for this class?...

I will be wearing...
tweed jacket coloured stock velvet hat (could dig out old beagler, good idea?) canary breeches and long boots black gloves. Is all this ok?...

Will also put stud girth on as may enter working hunter if day goes well oe should I take spare normal girth and use that instead?...

Should I take his flash off for the class?....he will be in a drop cheek snaffle that ok?...

Sorry lots of questions but I'm no showing buff and don't want to look like a total wally

Shall we have a who's saddle is oranger competition?... or insist that shows include and retrained exracer in gaudy saddle class in the schedule from now on!

Yes, judging by some of the other horses in the class I was in, they used the word "retrained" very loosely! I don't think I'd have a hope in hell of ever retraining mine, he just does his own thing!!

I'm sure mine's more orange than yours

I call it my "marmite" saddle, people either love it or hate it!

I only bought it because it was the best fit for my horse, comfy for me and a very good price (because of the colour!).

Wouldn't be quite so garish if I didn't have a dark bay horse! I think it would blend nicely on a chestnut.
 
I have a Stubben VSD and was told by Jo Bates that it was too bright for showing, so now have a dark brown Jeffries workers saddle. For local level I would not worry though.
 
Just a random piece of useless information but I when i worked in NZ the new saddles arrived very orange and i had to heat up olive oil and massage it in. I had never heard of this but it certainly gave it a darker look.

bally_horses: I've heard of that, but was too much of a wimp to do it incase I not only ended up with an orange saddle, but a tye-dye effect orange saddle!

The saddler did tell me it would darken with age and due to cleaning products, but I reckon that was just a story to try and encourage me to clean it more often?!

All my gear is orange, just not the actual saddle! Don't think my parents would fork out for that one though :P
 
Saddle will be ok but
Shirt and tie, not stock, for showing
Can you find some brown gloves, (black are nogo in showing)
Strapped hat fine ( and safer than beagler!)
No flash strap
No stud girth
Have fun!
 
Did what LCobby has said. Sure you will but use a shaped numnah not a dressage square so that you show his body off not the numnah! A very little thing but take some elastic or thin string that blends into your jacket to put your number on with - it looks horrid to use the black or white tape that shows give you. Basically don't worry though - it is what the horse goes well in not who has the prettiest tack. The strapped hat is fine and quite likely the show rules require it. Is it the HEROS show or elsewhere?
 
Nah it's just a little local show but it's a really nice event run by my local hunt and I thought that was probubly the most appropriate class for him, we are going to do a dressage test too. It's just a nice low level comp to ease him back in after his strained muscle. Hopefully it won't be baking hot!!!
