Quite recently bf horse (about 10 weeks all round) was visibly struggling on the frozen mud in the field gateway today. He was very ouchy on the hard ruts in his field and I just felt terrible. I'm a part livery so staff usually turn him out on a morning so they wouldn't have time to boot him before he went out. How on earth is he going to cope when the ground is really hard all the time? Do I have to admit defeat and shoe him? :(

If your paying part livery and they font have to change his rugs then ask them to pop boots on him, doesn't take long with things like renegades or cavallos I have old macs and they can be funny but the others are easy :)

Do you think they'd be okay with that, never been at a yard with staff before and I just feel very cheeky asking. In livery agreement their only obligation is to turn out Monday to Friday. Also when the mud melts will there be a problem with rubbing if it all goes into his boots? Because it's quite deep!!

When it melts just don't put them on :) is you whole girls rutted and poached? Or is it just the gate? If just the gate once he has made his way across he will be fine, if it's the whole girls then I'd ask them to put his boots on, I would just go fronts for turnout personally :) the staff are there to see to the horses care and this is one of them. I used to be a yard girl and I never bothered when something changed, :) they could do them whilst he's eating they don't take long at all pop on tighten and snap closed :)

I mean if he goes out when it's frosty then in the time he's in the field the sun comes out and it melts? And the mud goes over the boots? Primarily just the gateway but I'm worried about his soles bruising! I only have front boots anyway, they're cavallo and easy to put on! Thanks for this, will have a think and talk to someone at the yard :)
