I need some trimmers (or clippers if I have to) to trim up my hairy cob. He is not a vanner type, but a big coloured traditional with proper feathers. I have seen these and wonder if they are up to the job. I have already attacked them with the scissors (emergency) and now want the trimmers to follow up and even him out.

Any one got these.....

what do you think? are they up to the job?

I am choosing to trim him up as I have only just got him and found extensive mud fever on all 4 legs...now being treated...but I feel doing this is the best way to cope with treating it and making him comfortable. I will probably then let them grow back and PO&S them to keep control.

I love these! I brought them for my pony as he is terrified of clippers - but being a welsh he gets so hairy! I'd read reviews saying they are low noise and cordless being very helpful!

I LOVE them - and so does he. I have used them to do 3 full clips and hog his mane and take off feathers too - and only had to change blades once. Amazing.... although they only last about 45mins of charge while clipping thick hair - but u can use them while plugged in if your horse is well behaved!!

I got mine from Robinsons, came to £62.00 including postage and a spare blade.

My boss has full clipped a pretty hairy ID type with these with no problem at all.
I have the next one up from these, the harmony, and have hogged, done full feather (without pre trimming with scissors) and full clipped a whale pony several times with them. My clipper shy show pony (thats an oxymoron for you!!) is also happy to be clipped with these. If you want something with a bit more umpf than the element but with the quietness and ease of use, the harmony are the way to go, but they are more expensive!
Good luck xx

That sounds great. I will go off an get the Element. (All my post- Christmas bank account will stretch too).

How easy are these to look after? Clean? Sharpen? Any tips for maintenance?

Thanks

Whilst I have a pair of heavy duty clippers, I also have these ones which I use in summer to tidy up Stinky's jaw, bloomers and belly fin. I have also used them on the section C who has a lot of hair for a native on his legs.

When I have had to take out our Clydesdales legs in the past for x-rays, I first removed most of the hair with sissors and then ran the clippers over.

The Element should be fine if you have done this as for small clippers they are very robust and I have to say I am delighted with them and can really recommend them.

You can get the blades resharpened and you do need a drop of oil but no adjusting so they are very easy to use. I use them also for removing cat hairs on the body when showing as they have several heads to avoid too close a clip.

Really easy to use....

Charge for 24 hours before first use.

Blades just clip on and off.

Oil them every 10 mins or so - especially if clipping feathers/mane.

Then once finished take the blades off and clean well and clean the clippers too.. instructions in box :)

I love them!

Oh and sharpen as needed... I have 2 blades and 1 is ready to be sharpened but the other has still got a bit left, so I'll get them done at the end of the season. With one set I did 2 full clips and hogged and feathers and with the other set I have done one full clip and they're still sharp x
