Yes! Our main tackshop has gone and now you can only really get the odd bits and bobs from farmers merchants, we are severely lacking in a decent tack shop!
I usually use places like rideaway, but its so frustrating becuase I'm looking for some new leather boots for competing and I can't even go to a shop and try any on because none of the places stock them, so I have to go by what they look like in a catalogue without trying them on, its really annoying.
We used to have a legend of a tack shop in my high street -Keith Luxfords, went ages ago. Even Millets had a massive selection of horse tack, but nope, thats gone too!
Although places like Tesco, Lidl arnt helping with their horse ranges.
yes. i used to buy from a mail order place which was good but has gone to the dogs, on 2 different orders i was told the size i wanted wasnt available and would i like a diff size... the orders were for boots and a riding hat! why would i want to buy the wrong size!

I agree! You'll never be able to buy really specialist horse products in supermarkets but in the mean time they are putting tack shops out of business with their cheap tatt!
Yes, I think they are dying out which is a real shame. I tend to only buy my feed & supplements from my local tack shop. Sometimes Ill buy basic stuff like horse shampoo etc. as well but for more expensive stuff I get it off the internet. It is a shame, but all horse people have to get the best deals which unfortunately are usually online. I dont shop for equestrian stuff in Tesco's or Lidl though, Tesco certainly dont need anymore of my money!!
I was working at the tack shop Cornwallexracers was refering to as their in house saddler and have now set up my workshop at home.
Yes tack shops as we know them will disappear and all we will be left with will be agricultural merchants, supermarkets and the internet to get items for our horses.
I'm lucky enough to have a tack shop/saddlery on the yard but they do a lot of business through e-bay and mail order and have cut down on travelling to major shows.
A tack shop with on-line ordering facility is probably the only way they will survive. The nearest tack shop to me is very limited and they don't do much by way of leather work so I tend to use the net.
Frogpool is the easiest big supplier to get to but even then, I don't often have enough spare time to get up there for a proper browse.
it is a shame but with out us supporting them they will have no choice but to pack up. If I buy online i only buy from one place coz they have a shop as well so supporting their site helps keep their shop open. Pm me if anyone wants the link. We all will be sorry if they all close slowly one by one
well as a new tack shop owner, we are very busy i think the main reason is that people still like to try on, feel the material
and another reason they love to talk about guess what horses, but i was internet before and i still don,t stock a huge amount of rugs etc as i know people buy these mostly on line but we do have a next day delivery on any goods they order
our shop is small but has basically everything you need day to day, i am still internet based aswell and we try to stay as ture to our internet prices as in the shop
and you will be surprised to know that yes there are still some people who don,t know how to use the internet
