I have an 18 month old parsons jack russell. I'm going away this weekend and leaving her with a dog sitter who will have her in her own home with her 2yr old border collie x lab. I've never left a dog before, normally they can come everywhere I go and if not my parents always had them but Mum is on her own now and feels puppy is too lively for her to cope with for 3 full days and nights (she's 76).

Has anyone had experience of leaving dogs this way? What can I do to make it better for her and to stop me spending the whole weekend worrying instead of enjoying myself?

She will be fine!! :D
Worrying is absolutely normal - why not leave her with a recently worn (old!) jumper of yours so she has your smell? And send her with her favourite toy so she has some familiarity.
Ask the dogsitter to give you a ring the second night or something just to reassure you :)

Hi I used to do home boarding. And as long as youve done all the checks - mainly made sure the sitter is going to look after the dog, you'll find your pup will have a ball with a playmate. My two (6 and 5) still go to the same boarder and are usually very disappointed to see me return! Take her bed and favourite toy so she can smell familiar things. And point out any quirks she may have to the sitter, when she is fed etc keeping a routine helps. If I knew how to post photos i'd show you some of my old borders - they all had a ball and slept a lot!

Thanks guys! That makes me feel much better, we're going walking with the sitters dog tomorrow and I'll make sure I pack her favourite toys, blanket etc
