One of my colts (7 months today :D ) has a thing about rolling up against things and just laying there... I've seen him do it twice now and I'm sure he's done ti when I'm not there too. The first time I saw him was in the stable - he got down, rolled over and was up against the wall, he could easily have rolled back over but instead just stayed still and gave me an 'ohhh look mummy' stare... Waved my arms at him and he scrambled up fine.

That was about a month ago and I haven't seen him do it since. But this morning I put them both out and had a peek just before I left and saw him roll over onto the fencing... The area they have fenced off is failry small but he has plenty of room to roll far, far away from the fencing! And the fencing is like pedestrian barriers (fab at keeping them in so far) so has bars going downwards. He once again stayed still and gave me the same 'whoopsie' kind of look. He had a leg sticking out of the fencing so I was worried he would hurt himself, but he just isn't really bothered, looks a bit like a tiny beached whale!! I waved my arms at him again and he scrambled up...

Should I be worried? And will he learn that he has to be careful where he rolls!? I don't think he's cast when he does it, just a little bewildered. I just worry that he'll do it when I'm not there and won't get up! I don't think changing the fencing will make much difference because the only other thing that will keep them in is post and rail with sheep wire, and he could get his legs through that and harm himself more. Is he tiny enough to just be able to scramble his way up?

My 7yo tb does this :D But he goes: ' Oh carp I'm stuck. SIDEWINDER TIME!!! WOOO!' then uses his head and neck to lever his shoulders up so he can pretty much squiggle his way out of whatever he has rolled against. He hasn't done it since being turned out 24/7 but without fail it was an every day occurance in his stable - 12x12 so no excuse!

:p

As long as he can get himself up then I don't mind, maybe if he doesn't learn to stop, he'll learn to wiggle!!

If he lays down and I manage to catch him for cuddles, the other one will gently kick him with his front legs, so I hope that if he ever got stuck, his big bro would come along and give him so motivation to get up! :D

probably not!!!! My boy was the same. He also used to lie in his old field with his back right up against the metal gate looking down the field. How he got down right there I do not know!
