Have had my horse up for sale on and off for a fair few months now. About 5 people have been to see her, they all seemed to get on with her and liked her, but none have followed it up.
I don't want to drop her price to any less than I payed for her either.
She is a really great horse but is it just the bad market?
Any advice on what to do?
Sorry for the pointless rant. :(

Hi!

I have seen your mare advertised and was interested. The market is quite bad at the moment, even the cheaper horses are not really selling, but also to the same degree..I cannot find a horse that ticks my boxes either...so not good all round I think. I must admit the price did put me off. She does seem nice but I do not think TB's sell particularly well.

I don't think you should drop the price. If I was looking I would snap her up. She looks like a really pretty and useful RC allrounder.
Someone will come along!

Thanks, it is looking like I will have to keep her. There is no point selling her for less than she is worth. It's just gutting that the market is so bad.

She's only worth what someone will pay for her - the figure in your head is sadly, basically meaningless :(

The market is utterly, utterly dead at the moment, sorry.

Am in exactly the same situation. I have had to drop our outgrown pony's price because I am having to pay livery and really need to sell. We have had a couple of people try him and they love him but don't want to commit or think he is too good for their child. It is so frustrating as I just want him to go to a good PC home and do for another child what he has done for my daughter. Good luck whatever you decide

Like i said before , shame shes not a gelding or we could swap:rolleyes:
Hopefully the slow market for horses will be an advantage for me while i am looking to buy.

I have been tentatively horse hunting since January this year. I have found that horses which will do a job,be it hack, hunter, jumper and do it well ,are selling if reasonably priced. What doesnt seem to be selling is overpriced-for-what-it-is in the current market and also if it wont do anything eg "well shes 6 years old but just backed" " hes green and has never been shod,he doesnt do traffic,he wont tie up" I've even heard of adult animals which have had so little handling they are basically wild. These animals dont seem to be selling at any price.
A suitably priced affable well trained animal, with tet and flu vaccs, passport and traceable history should sell. Priced too low and I feel people wonder whats wrong? I know I do.
Have you placed an advert with H&H? Word of mouth often helps, especially with children's ponies.Best wishes with selling yours and finding a lovely home for him or her.

i know how you fill i have just dropped the prices on my 2 had no intreast really , and i really need to sell before xmas

Have you searched the wanted ads? I know it's long winded and annoying considering you're selling, but I'm searching and put up some wanted ads, thinking I wouldn't get any replys at all, I think i've been contacted by about 15 people, and I've found more genuine sellers this way i like to think, and you may find more buyers. Like I said it's probably long winded to traul the wanteds, but sometimes when they're on the for sale sites people (like me) don't really go past the first few pages because when I have called before those horses have already been sold, so this way people who may not come accross your ad may see it. That was all less complicated in my head before I wrote that down haha!!!

Then you can find people who are looking for what you have and have the money aswell if that makes sense cos they usually have upper bounds etc?

I hope that made sense and was even a little helpful!! I really feel for alot of the people selling, like i said i got so many more responses than I ever imagined and 99% TB (which is what i'm after and I did say in my ad so that may negate that point).

Good Luck, the universe is probably just waiting for you and the right person to collide!!

That is a great idea! Thank you. Will get looking through the ads.

I think people will be put off by her price as imho it's fairly high considering the fact that she is a cribber which will put a lot of people off. Sorry :(

Personally I think she is a cracking little mare :)

Yeah, but people have been to see her even when the price was higher. They never seemed to mind when they saw her doing it. It's just trying to convince them to part with their money! Thank you :)

Just found your ad. I don't think it is remotely overpriced. The horse has done a lot and I think she is worth it....sorry not looking though - have one of my own to sell later on in the year or next spring!

Thats what I though. She has done literally everything that can be done, she has done it well without problems. She is just an easy, fun mare. TBH i'm sure people would much prefer a stable vice (cribbing) than a riding vice like bucking, rearing or bolting (which she does absolutly none of!!)
At least there are some people out there who agree about my price for her.
It is so demoralising. :(

She likes pigs too!! :-P

And she is pretty! Hahaha :)

Someone out there will like her.

I think that the hobby-horse world is finally catching up with the iffy economy along with the price of hay/bedding now, and through the coming winter.

I think that people are fearful of taking on any more mouths to feed if they haven't got their hay sorted. My hay bill has doubled this year, partly because the price has gone up a lot and secondly because I've had to feed hay all summer due to barely having a blade of grass!

I don't think there's any issue with your horse/its price per se, except, as someone else said, a horse is only worth what people will pay for it.

Why are you selling her?

She's lovely...

p.s. if any of mine saw those pigs, they'd have turned tail and scarpered!!!!

I didn't think about the feed/bedding shortage!!

Good point!

I am selling her as she will not be a top level event horse, so I will be buying a young potential event horse with the money.

She is amazing around pigs! She is pig proof!! Hahah

Could the reason they won't part with their money be that they have seen her cribbing?
People know that sellers are struggling to sell and tend to think "I can get a horse without 'vices' for the same money".

There are always more horses for sale in Autumn anyway, without the added pressures this year.
