Will my horse ever sell?

I would try an online add on H&H. I advertised a TB on horse mart and horsequest for ages and didnt realy get much interest. One week on H&H and I had several sensible calls and sold her to the first person who came to see her.

She looks v sweet, but realistically, with the price of feed and hay/haylage going up, I'd imagine the last breed of horse people want is a thoroughbred. I certainly wouldn't risk it, have one already and know how much they eat!

Ooohh could you PM me the ad link too? I'm looking atm :) but slightly worried she may be way out of my price range? I'm looking for a horse that can be a first horse for me, forward going but safe that I can compete on unaff and maybe aff. eventing, dressage, SJ other cool stuff etc, ponyclub, and to start hunting, go hacking etc haha...but i'm trying to do it on a budget :O :) good luck, i think the market is probably really bad atm...I was looking last year, and saw a few I really liked only to have them snapped up really quickly before I could revisit with my instructor/vet! But then this year, over the last few weeks I've seen a few I thought were lovely and reasonably priced, but just weren't quite right for me, where the owners have had zero interest!

Have PM'd you.

Do you have any pictures of your horse out hunting?perhaps jumping a fence? They would be good on the advert and would show people what she is capable of. Also check out the prices of similar animals for sale to see where abouts in the scheme of things you are pitching your price.
Best Wishes, I hope she finds a lovely home soon.

I've got no idea what you're asking for her, but can only really reiterate that the reason she is selling is most likely the price.

If people are seeing her and liking her, but not buying, then I would say the odds are that as nice as they think she is, they don't think she is worth the money.

Sometimes on these things you just have to cut your losses - every month you keep her is more in feed, shoes and livery - and every month it will get harder to sell her as winter approaches. There isn't much point hanging onto her for the sake of pride, unless you can do something to increase her value.

Could i see a link to her advert? She looks lovely.
I may be looking soon, and if im not i know someone who is.

Also, a reason horse may not be selling is because the buyers cannot sell their horses. As my friend is trying to sell her horse to buy a new one with the money, something more 'up-class', however, nobodys interested in hers. Not that this infomation helps, im sure.

By the way, you chestnut is lush.

I will PM you the link.

Thank you, he is only 14.2hh but he has the attitude of a 17hh!! (And the jump he likes to think!)

I havent seen your horse advertised per se so have no idea what price you want.I was however looking at eventers on horsequest and to get a nice riding club horse I would need to go to 4-5k. So if your mare ismuch more than that she is overpriced in the current market.

At the moment you can get better for less than that if you dont need to worry about hacking on roads. I would pay 4-5k if the horse was guaranteed good in traffic and hacking alone (other people would have other needs) and was able to cope with prenovice/novice level. A horse like that could do the areas.

Mares are often more tricky to sell. Personally i prefer them but many people wont even consider a mare! Fools!;):D

Finally the hay situation. It is bad and has stopped me from looking.

Not knocking your mare btw as she would possibly be ideal for me. Iit is just a bad time to be selling.

May mare is ALL of those things that you've mentioned, ok only 5 and only broken earlier this year, but schooling to good level, jumping (very scopey), very pretty and moves like a DREAM. A Sports Horse (so fashionable) Would BE, BD, BS any day. Advertised in H&H for the lower end of your price bracket. Not one phone call. :( So depressed.

It is really depressing isn't it! The fact that there are alot of people out there who would be interested etc. But then they are still for sale! :(

It is a hard one but personally I think she is overpriced despite having proved herself especially when you can buy an intermediate eventer for £1000 cheaper. TBs are two a dozen. I can buy one for £600 from Ascot with no vices and good to hack. If you really want to sell try dropping the price and see what happens if nothing happens stop advertising for a couple of weeks take some new photos and try again.

OK, found her.

Sorry but overpriced. She is a good solid riding club horse but (as you have said) not a succesful competition horse competing at high level.

I have one (slightly older) who has done a lot more and I would price her at about 3k (naked)

Its just a buyers market at the moment and as someone said, TB`s are cheap as chips just now (unfortunately)

If you look in the ex racehorse section, they are for sale cheaper, some having achieved more.

I know it isnt fair. But, its up to you what you price your horse at. I`m certainly not judging you.
Lots of luck selling her, lovely looking mare

She is £4500 ono so just right in your "estimation". :) She is safe. Surely that is what people want to pay for?

I would as you cant put a price on a safe horse. I dont think that is too high tbh. I just think there are cheaper ones out there. I will try to find your ad and see if there is anything to put me off!:)

Have you tried the PC web site. I know 3 parents alone in my PC Branch that are looking for safe PC ponies at 14.2. You could also try your local PC district commisioner (DC) to see if they know anyone looking.

Liz

TBH I think you're spot on with the price. I'm looking for exactly this type, but 2 hands bigger, and I'm not expecting to be able to find a good as alrounder as your one sounds for less than 6k.

TBH I don't think a cribber would put me off that much. My best ever horse was a windsucker, and it never caused any problems.

Can you not make her grow taller for me please :D

I think the price is spot on but unfortunately she seems to be the sort of horse buyers can pick up very cheaply if they look around. Sometimes you see horses like this advertised for 2k and I guess they think, why pay 4.5k if they can pay 2k.

Does she have any competition results that might make buyers think they are getting something more for their money to set her apart from the "opposition"?

Mind you, horses in Scotland (where I am) seem to be more expensive. This month's main adverising mag is full of very ordinary riding club types with no affiliated results, but with "potential to affiliate" at age 9 or 10, for 6k plus! I don't think so.

Your looking for a 18.1hh??

She is 16.1hh!! :D

She is now on the Pony Club Website where I must say she looks very cheap compared to the other over 16hh's. If I have no luck with the pony club advert then she will be going in H&H.
When I advertise her with H&H, is it better to have an online ad or a mag ad?

haha, it sounds very reassuring reading this thread. My chap is for sale, had been since july and haven't yet found anyone suitable, despite dropping his price by £2000...an absolute giveaway for his type. it is SUCH a shame, because he would be an AMAZING eventing horse for someone, too bad I'm back at uni late sept.
Is there ANY clients out there? It's crazy!

Our yard seems to be on a run for selling horses at the moment and only one proved harder to sell. The event horse (first season) had an excellent record this season, newly backed mare (gray 16.1!) again had been out and about, and had some competition history (good and recent) behind her. Young show cob hadn't been out (which for showing is a good thing) but was up and ready to go and even the pony went quickly. Only one not to sell easily was a lovely big mare - exceedingly kind and easy but no competition history but she was vetted last week so should be going soon. In terms of pricing - they were priced keenly but not cheaply when comparing them with similiar types.
