soon to be up north!

I have just schooled J, and I don't think I have been this tired for a very long time!

I have the use of a clients school on a Monday so took him up there after lunch. He was really on his toes all the way there, spooking at the slightest thing. Got there and tried to get him to settle, but no such luck

He was so sharp, could be trotting happily round one minute then before you know it you would be facing the opposite direction, accelerating fast

(I imagine quite similar to driving a lotus

) Anyway, I stuck with him and eventually got a fairly consistent trot, then attempted canter...

OMG... lets just say at one point he was gathering himself together to jump out of the arena, I can honestly say I have never ridden so determinedly in my life, I eventually got a super canter out of him, and was so tempted to leave it at that, but knew I had to do the same on the other rein. We had the same stupid behaviour again, but eventually settled and did some lovely canter work. We had one point where he attempted to go up, but I managed to ride him forwards, I lost count of the number of fly bucks and gazelle impressions

He was loads worse than he was coming back into work, but it didn't bother me (well wasn't fun, but I stuck with it) I am feeling a bit pleased with myself as i did get the upper hand in the end, he is definitely the most challenging horse I have ridden, and think he will always test me, but at least I know now that I can ride him through it and get what I aimed for....eventually

Sorry very self indulgent post, but just feel so different from how I was when he went over backwards with me a month and a half ago, onwards and upwards
smile.gif

(well hopefully no upwards LOL)

onwards and upwards as you say - he sounds very rewarding though, when it all comes together.

Mine decided to jump out of the arena yesterday just to show me she was feeling rather well and pingy....I'm SOOO glad I'd already ridden her at that point.

Bet you can't wait till the summer when *hopefully, if there is any* the heat will dope all of them LOL
grin.gif

Ho ho - he sounds like a handful. Well done you though. Is the photo on your avatar of him? He's gorgeous, even if he is a hooligan.
Don't you think, though, that when they start out really loopy and spooky, you often get the best work out of them once they've lost that edge, because they are still working on adrenaline and it can help to keep them really sharp and focussed.

Yep thats the little monster

I agree about the work thing, I got the best canter I have ever felt out of him today, it was so uphill and active, just a bit explosive at times

It was raining, which put him in a bad mood from the beginning, I tried to explain that sometimes eventers have to get wet, but not sure he believed me

Don't forget downwards - that's not much fun either! lol!

He sounds very similar to mine, only higher up on the scale of monsterishness! Well done - it takes some bottle sometimes to keep going and not just 'leave it there' lol! I know what you mean about the spooking as well - one minute you're trotting round nicely, blink and you are at the other end of the school with a pair of ears in your face!

Tell me about it, its days like these that I remember why I still leave the martigale on for schooling, I hate them but without it I think I would have had a nice black eye today

Yes, I can clarify that a lotus is that quick

I'm so glad MH that you are beginning to get the better of the beastie and I know that once you start to win all the time, he will give up. Boo is not as naughty as J, but he can be a quick little monkey, he never turns around, he just scoots off, little bu99er
crazy.gif

Keep it up hun, you're doing a really brilliant job.xx
smile.gif

Well, they're great fun but not good for the family, only 2 seater. There are 3 of us in our family so one always got left out if hubby went out in it. We had some great trips though and we used to go over to Bournemouth for whats known as "the burger run" we'd travel from Devon to Bomo, meet up by the Pavillions, usually between 10-15 other Lotus', we'd all then go for a speed rush round the Bomo countryside (its a seat of your pants stuff
crazy.gif
) then we'd all meet at a burger place have some food, go to a nice pub then come home again, great fun.
grin.gif

They did a girlie burger run once where all the wives and GF's got to drive, so there I was driving at silly speeds in my hubby's car with him sat next to me when it suddenly dawned on me that I could actually total his brand new car
crazy.gif
It was fine though, we all made it back in one piece.

I did let out a little scream of terror when he headed at the fence in a lovely bouncy but completely unstoppable canter

[/ QUOTE ]

Which you would of course have changed into a cry of exhilaration should anybody have been watching

Well done you, hopefully the cheeky monday will remember all this next Monday and behave himself.
They do say the superstar horses are the ones with the quirks
