Will my horse look silly sporting this clip?

Horse was fully clipped (legs and head) in september and october (she is a hairy yak and this didn't go well with the indian summer!) but since then her work load has decreased significantly and she has grown a reasonably thick coat but I am home for christmas holidays and she needs some hair off but she will not be in serious work again until may due to finals/ going abroad etc! Definately want head off as she looks really common with it on and want most of neck off so was going to do a low/medium trace clip that turned into a chaser on the neck and take head off. Sound ok so far? Now I really want her legs off as well will this look absolutely ridiculous, I hate really hairy, wet, muddy legs, I always clip feathers off (she is welsh Dx) but I like no hair legs but don't want her to lose her street cred!

Do a chaser and take her head off, then run the clippers up the backs of her legs to get rid of most of the hair. I think she will look odd if you take off her legs but leave body hair on on her bottom.

Does that make sense?

Ok so backs of legs off, that might look a bit more sensible! Thank you. This is all dependent on me being able to clip lines, never done that before!

I would run the clippers with the direction of the hair down the back of the legs. This will take the long bits off but not make them completely bald. Looks quite natural and much less odd than bald legs and a hairy body.

I have done this on one of my horses; half head (as I can't get near the back of his ears!) all of the neck (no line) then a chaser clip sloping to his back legs (all of his belly off) and the back of his legs (no hair) it looks really nice and there is only one line to clip ... withers to stifle.

we have horses with this clip at my yard too, looks very smart!

Your horse sounds like mine (dun and bloody hairy that they have to be clipped in the summer too!).

I have just re-clipped mine today but, cos I can't abide doing lines anymore (god knows why I used to bother) I just whip it all off! Well, save for a saddle patch. Mine is in at night but out with a full rug (wug) during the day and it doesn't do him any harm at all - he's not doing a lot of work as we don't have facilities to ride in the week in winter.

However, he gets so warm and uncomfortable if i don't take his hair off I'd rather he was a little bit cooler than too hot. He actually had a rash on his flanks/thighs today where his hair has got too thick and he's got dermatitis. He suffers if he gets too warm.

Obviously it's up to you but I think, if you're rugging anyway it doesn't make any difference to the horse how much you take off. I take off the whole head too - although am not allowed to do the ears (he won't let me!) so I have to sort of trim/blend them so they don't look too daft! hehe
