Will pig oil work on leather or rubber boots?

But of a random one. I usually take mine out hacking through our field and it’s much quieter and comes out in the village as opposed to the busy road at the front. Anyway, it’s quite muddy in the gateways now. We are in the process of putting something down in the gateways but it’s too wet to get out there to do that now. 2 out of 3 I can get on the in the yard and do the gates on board no issues but the new mare I am still leading to the lane and getting on there because we haven’t tackled gates yet… nor do I want to ride her straight into a 10 acre field when just on board when I don’t know her. ? so I lead her to the lane and get on there with my portable mounting block.
The only issue is it is trashing my ariats… ? I clean them straight after but it’s not doing them much good walking through the mud, not to
Mention I’m not keen to then ride with muddy boots. I have been wearing my rubber wellies which I don’t like wearing to ride in really but are more practical… is there anything I can put on either boots to stop the mud from sticking? It puts me off going out when it’s just rained as I hate having muddy boots!

I think I'd probably wear my wellies through the field and carry my riding boots, I'd be a bit worried about putting something on them and it ruining the leather.

This looks good! Looks good for cleaning tack too without having to bother with water!

I would disagree that it's a great product and would not recommend it for tack. Check out all the threads we have had on here about tack cleaning.

Just use a proper waterproofing wax for shoes such as Nikwax or Grangers.

I just wear what we all used to wear back in the 80s, rubber riding boots. Decathlon sell very cheap ones. Job done.

I have the decathlon ones and practically live in them! On about my fourth pair now! They are easy to hose off and I have ridden in them, just don’t feel the most secure in them.

Could you leave a bucket of water and a brush by the lane and give your boots a quick scrub before getting on, then a proper clean and conditioning once or twice a week?

I could but they are already cracking a bit so I’m a bit dubious about getting them too wet. That would work with my rubber boots though.

Have you considered old fashioned dubbin? I use this on all my leather footwear and I love it for waterproofing and protecting the leather. I fear you may be too late for your current boots, though. I've found that once Ariats start to go, they just go!!

Depending how much mud, the other option could be lots of conditioner (which should help to waterproof the leather and the mud not to stick) and an old towel to wipe it off? My farrier prefers a dry towel to washing to get hooves clean and it's surprising how clean they get with a good rub.
