will rubber matting stop him slipping?

as title really. moved my boy into a different stable as he was alone in his stable block and needed company. since hes moved ive noticed that since the floor of this stable is completely smooth so he slides quite a bit when getting up.

any of you reckon rubber mats might help rectify it? hate seeing him look like bambi, hearts always in my mouth!
 
Thats why I ended up putting mats down for mine. My mare digs and scrapes and rolls, and I was always stressing that she would hurt herself, now, with the mats, I don't. I still use the same amount of bedding, I don't like sparse beds, but I don't worry about injuries.
 
I got some from Russell's in Larbert and some from Central Saddlery in Avonbridge (Falkirk) if you're anywhere near them. Lady next door to my mare got hers from ebay, delivered to her door rolled and tied so easy to move!
 
Have a look on ebay, they were the same quality and much cheaper as some of the bigger companies.. Some local tack shops etc have them too, and will deliver round here, which makes it a lot easier, as they are heavy things!
 
I have the ones with the 'crocodile skin' top, not sure if that's a very good description though! Mine have the grooves underneath for drainage and are grippy on top while being easy to sweep. My friend has the ones with the lines top and bottom, those ones are a bit more difficult to sweep imo, but thats comparing them to mine :)
 
Ours are the bobbles ones, with lines underneath for drainage. One of our DIYs asked if she could have them with the lines upwards, which we did, but they were much slippier like that, and we turned them the right way round when she left.
 
I've just bought some EVA foam mats from easimat, they have a kind of teardrop raised pattern on the top, and raised discs underneath to help with drainage. They're not as heavy as rubber matting and so far I am LOVING them!

yeah one of the girls at my yard has them with the lines upwards, i was doin her horse for her one night and lost count of how many times i slid on them, dont really get that..

i was looking at these too! they sound quite good, will need to get the measuring tape out at the farm tonight haha
 
Really shocked to see the replies.

Mine are from equimat, round bobble top, and they definitely make slipping worse. If they get wet, and worse still if frozen they are like walking on ice. As for foaling with all the goo - forget it!

I did get in touch with the manufacturers (not equimat) who confessed that they had switched to EVA for the same reason!!!!!

Suggest spending the extra dosh for EVA then.

I'm moving soon and building a new yard. Mats will not be a feature!

oh dear :( i dont really need to worry about foaling since hes a boy haha but if it makes it slippyer now im not so sure :( i dont think it could be worse than it is just now though, and surely the mats would be nicer for him than the concrete anyway?

Snap. I have pink ones (don't ask) of these, and they're into their second winter with a 900 kilo yak-horse on them, and they have been fantastic, I would get them again without question, piece of cake to lift/move etc, and seem warm too. Very happy!
