Starting to worry about if my baby is going to be big enough for me.
She is a Selle Francais and is 2 years 7 months now and stands at 16hh.
I am 5'8" and weigh (cough, splutter, cough) 13 stone, have lost 1 1/2 stone over last 2/3 months so i'm hoping to be lighter once she is being ridden but i'm not a light person and i'm never going to be. Do you think i'm right to worry about her being able to carry me? Honest opinions please.

Selle-Francais are notoriously slow growers. I honestly wouldn't worry......she WILL grow into that head of her's LOL!!

I just seem to be finding anything to worry about at the moment.
Will she be big enough, will I cope, am I good enough, what if this what if that bla bla bla!!!
I put a saddle on her yesterday

and it just got me thinking about when I do eventually hop on!!
 
My little 13'3hh happily rode and jumped with 5'8ft 12st and she wasn't the biggest of girlies. New forest are very good for weight though. I think you'll be fine my horse is 6 and in last few months gone from 16hh to 16'3hh *I'm still fooling myself hes 15hh* Like said later growers.
 
I think she's going to be absoutely fabulous and has an especially fantastic hind leg. Height & weight wise she'll easily carry you and has plenty of bone to boot - and such good bone!!!
I am only concerned that you may have tied her up to her controller headcollar, though I'm sure you disconncted it first

Totally agree with Sienna. She's going to be a beauty!

You'll be fine, just take your time and ask when you aren't sure about what you're doing. Patience, kindness and a bit of firmness goes a long way.

She'll be absolutely perfect for you, and don't let anyone tell you any different....

There is so much emphasis put on height nowadays, people forget that for example, most western horses are below 15hh, are slim build and gallop around with grown men on them all whooping and shouting Yeehaa (yes, I know that last bit has no bareing - got carried away)

Love her, enjoy her, and you'll not go far wrong.
 
Thanks everyone thats just what I needed to hear. She is a beauty isn't she!! Its not so much her height that concerns me its the amount of bone she has.

BTW the rope is attahed to the 'normal' part of the dually not the control part!!

ETS: HP totally agree with the others, she is going to be a fantastic horse and Im sure you'll do just fine with her!
 
OMG of course she is big enough. Where on earth did you get the impression that she wouldn't be??????? She looks well put together already and that can only improve with age. When I was looking for horses it made me laugh that certain skinny people were implying I should own a Shire x just because I'm not your standard size 10 or 12.

She is gorgeous, and unless she outgrows her ears you are going to have one very honest horse there!
(Never met a bad horse with big ears!). Selle francais are the only thing I would buy that wasn't Irish, love 'em!)

She's is absolutely gorgeous you lucky person, I am no expert but as everyone has said she looks really well put together and still has growing to do, I can't wait for your updates when you start to back her please keep me I mean us posted won't you?

You made my heart skip a beat when I read the beginning of your post , I thought you were going to start the 'no way can she take your weight' replies. If I do, which I doubt I will, ever decide to sell her i'll give you first refusal.
 
I can not believe someone would worry about a 16 hand warmblood carrying 13 stone - I know more guys who weigh 15 stone, who gallop around on 14-15 hand TBs who never have any problems!!
 
She will be fine, the only time you need to worry is if the horse is long backed. A 16hh+ horse who is long backed will very often not carry the same as a 15hh horse. Your filly looks ok from what I can remember of previous photo's.
 
Ha ha ha. Ok well I live in the wild west. The horse I am showing this year will be under 15hh but he is not a slim build. He is a real chunky monkey. Right now at almost 2 years old he weight out at 1100lbs. I am 6' tall and weigh umm hold on a sec let me work it out... 12.1 stones. I think he will be plenty big enough!
By the way the horse in the photo will be just fine for you. Don't let anyone discorage you.
