Hello all xxx

This is khaleesi .. my 2 year old ISH cross ID

2 in may

She currently stands at 14hh and a peanut

Mum is 15.2 and dad is 16.1 1st class
Why isn't she growing ha ha .. she's been 14hh for around 6 months .. fed on grass .. hay .. feeds .. not overfed x well cared for .. loved.. I've owned horses all my life but just can't see her making height. I know ID grow till 8 but this seems impossible

I'm 12 stone and 5ft 7 so a 15hh this build won't take me .. I'm praying someone can offer me hope x

The second generation can have an influence on size. I bred 2 out of a 15h mare by 16.2 different stallions. The one I wanted to be 16.2 matured at 15.1 and the one I wanted to be 16h matured at 17.2. Looking back at dam sire/dam and stallion sire/dam, there were smaller horses.

You take your chance when breeding horses !

With ID in her breeding she has years of growing to do yet!!! I don't think you will be able to tell for another couple of years yet.

String test her, its pretty accurate so at least you have a good idea. Some just don't make the height, some grow to be giraffes. Its just how it is with horses

We have just bought a 9yr old 14.2 pony from his breeder. She was trying to breed a horse for herself to show jump and it’s taken her all these years to admit defeat and sadly sell him. Out of her 15.2 jumping mare by an Anglo European 16.2 sire. He has been perfect in every way and she has jumped him as a horse but she is tall and wants something bigger.
It’s a minefield this height lark! Hope yours grows!

My trakehner cross ended up at exactly 16 hands at 6. She was just under 14 hands at 15 months, 15.1 at 3years old. Her dad was 16hands and mum was 15.1 . I was worried she would only make 14.2 when she was 2 as she hadn’t grown at all , but she kept growing till she was 6 ..

I have a 4 year old who has grown a whole hand in 10 months. No idea if he will grow upwards anymore 🤣 go with the flow. His dam was 16hh and sire was 16.1 and he is 17.1 so far so Ill take what I get.
In his line of parentage, there is no horses over 16.1/2 so i guess you can never tell 😊
Mine also had a growth spurt between 3 and 4. He's PRE, was 11.3hh at one year old, 15.1hh at three and now just under 16.1hh at four. Sire is 16hh and dam is 15.3hh.
ISH can take a fair while to finish growing upwards. Definitely don't panic.
