This is Bella!

She is a very hairy unfit cob who is coming back in to work. Tomorrow I plan to give her a small clip, like a very low chase, she will be ok without a rug won't she? She is out in the day, in at night?

*yep, I know she's fat!*

would certainly put some sort of light rug on her - if you're taking hair off, she will need something! a little sheet would probably be fine

Please be careful cos if you put a ''light'' sheet, or rug on her, without any insulation, then she won't be able to ''fluff'' up her coat, and consequently get cold, so better to leave her with nothing, or a rug with some sort of insulation in it.

That's exactly what I was going to say, spitchwick..... dead right, no rug is better than a thinny, as it compresses the excellent action of the hair...

I 'd say no to a rug at all, expecially if you're only clipping underneath, not sides or top. In at night will even be a bit warm for her being soooo cuddly!

Ooo... now that's a nice heavy looking cob.

If she was not previously rugged then she will be fine with the amount you plan on taking off.

We've got one like yours (also chubby!) Clipped him, rugged him with a lightweight and he got so itchy, he destroyed two good rugs in a week (and knocked over a water bowser full up with water!).

We also found the fillet strap got caught up in his hair above the hocks, and the poor boy had a raw spot on each leg. He's naked again now!

Wow, thats one hairy horsey, you have there! V Nice though.
She'll be fine without a rug!
Horses like this were bred to be naked!!!!!!

Thank you for the replies. Am getting a light weight rug just incase but plan not to use it and will see how she goes! Will post some pics of her clip tomorrow!

Ditto comments above, better off without a lw so that the hair can fluff up to keep warm. I'd only put the lw on if there was going to be lots of rain to keep them dry
