Board to tears as many of you know - i am flabbergasted at how many coloured horses there are currently for sale - they seam more popular than solid colours.

I just wonder if we will have a big shift round to solid colours again soon and coloureds will drop down the popularity stakes.

No idea but I'd not buy a coloured or a grey. No matter how suited it was to my needs.

Stupid I know but that's just my thoughts, they just don't do it for me.

Love bays, chestnuts - horses you can make shiny :-)

I personally don't like coloureds and when horse hunting have always been drawn to bays! Maybe I'm boring but I stay clear of greys, having shared one before who was a mud monster!

Coloureds do seem to have a higher price, probably another reason why I avoid them!

I don't like coloured horses :p

I do love my grey pony though. Always wanted one. Also like a nice bright bay, the reddy conkered coloured ones. Also love ginge with four whites and a blaze. And duns, and liver chestnuts. So pretty much anything solid coloured :p

As my mother constantly told me 'a good horse is never a bad colour' but she doesn't like coloured horses either :D

I would never buy a coloured, grey as My sister has a coloured mare and she is a pain in the a*** to clean/to keep clean so thats put me off for life having one lol I also owned a mare with four white sock's and she was an awful bed walker and her legs where never clean..

I am a chestnut and bay fan :D

I don't think solid colours have gone out of fashion, just that unusual colours are no longer such a bad thing!

TFF- Al had the ugliest little cremello you could ever wish to see, he had huge blue bug eyes, massive ears and was just the wrong shade of yellow that made him look a little bit grubby. He won everything in their year together and was generally a dude. He was so ugly he was cute and he charmed the pants of everyone :D

i'd much rather a blend in the background boring bay - then you are less likey to be noticed at comps when they throw a hissey fit!

Did they ever go out of fashion? I'm partial to a nice grey or black, but I've never yet bought a horse because of it's colour. I'm not overly fond of chestnuts, but one of the best horses I've ever had was a really garish light chestnut with a (yuk!) flaxen mane and tail.

I just think its the in fashion at the mo, i loved bays and chestnuts, but have just been brought a coloured by the hubby, but she is a keeper.

Can you have a grey and black or a grey and brown as in with patches rather than a mixed coat?

I prefer solid colours, but if the horse was the right one, then it wouldn't put me off. I do however dislike a lot of coloured cobs, it seems that many nowadays have been poorly bred just for colour, and they have awful conformation. A friend has just brought one, for quite a bit of money too, and quite frankly, it has the most terrible front legs I've seen, totally back at the knee and with fetlocks on the floor. It passed (the dealers) vetting so she is paying the money because she thinks it's worth it because it's 16hh and it's coloured!!

Now Gingerwitch..why are you window shopping for horses  I heard that palomino is the new coloured :D never liked coloured horses but then I started having lessons on one and fell in love with him..not down to his colour but his personality but it reminded me to look beyond the skin.:)

I like most colours, have coloureds. bays, grey and chestnuts. Not as keen on anything blue eyed but wouldn't rule anything out really.

Interesting we have two knabstrupper stallions in our area and it would appear that spotty is the new coloured.

The horse and its brain are most important but having said that Bays and Dark Bays make me go weak at the knees.

I was sooo lucky when I was shopping, very partial to Chestnuts, I didn't really want to spend my life cleaning a grey or coloured but was determined to get the best horse for my needs. Ended up looking at endless greys and one massive 17"2 coloured (that was still growing) that my mum was trying to convince me to buy when my beautiful boy fell into my lap! (see signature) Chesnut, 3 white socks, paces for dressage, jump for eventing :D No regrets, love him to pieces.

I don't like coloureds, but do like palominos, duns and other unusuals. Fabs not too bad at all to clean! OH likes traditional bays and chestnuts though.

I tend to like any colour that stands out a bit in a crowd, so coloureds are too samey for me these days unless it is a more sporty type with splashes of white, I am just not a fan of the traditional cob look, would much prefer a solid colour.

My favourite is probably dun but I am partial to most types of grey, I have a haffie which is always distinctive :-)

I think there is a bit of a shift back towards solid colours - seem to be less coloured youngsters about. Personally, I'm always drawn to greys, but I have just bought my first ever bay! Must admit that I am enjoying the lack of cleaning that is required compared to my grey ;)
