43!!!!!! Blimey, she looks to me like she has a good tum and you cant see her ribs, as for the topline she is not going to have any (i am presuming of course that she is not in work!!), out of interest what do you feed her as i have an old boy here who is doing very well but am always interested to hear other peoples managment with the oldies.

Well twoweeks after I loaned her I put her on

2 scoops of ready mash extra
2 pans molli chaff veteran
2 scoops of sugar beet
1 spoon of cod liver oil

I split this between 4 buckets , but she goes for walks in hand with me 3 times a week down to the unfenced fields so she can have some decent grass.

I am considering putting her on corn oil, but I don't know about amounts or whether it will do anything for her

Mine gets 2 scoops of mash and 5 scoops of a veteran mix (with some chaff)split between 4 feeds a day, he also is out in the field for about 6-7 hours a day (we have good grass) and ad lib hay.

omg thats incredible she looks fab for her age think your doing really well oil is always a good thing for weight and condition and wouldnt see any harm in giving her some i prefer linseed or soya oil

Wow, she looks amazing for that age!! Well done to you.

Allen and page has just brought out a new soakable feed called veteran vitality, we've just got a free sample of it plus a £3 money off voucher. Our pony is 36 and has only got front teeth now. We also do multiple bucket thing :-) xx

Yep lots of feeds seems to work better, my TB is on 3 a day and both will probably go up to 4 when the winter sets in. I love giving them a warm mash when its really cold!:)

the multiplebucket thing will work instead for the traditional 2 a day beacause a horsecan only properly digest so much in one go the rest just passes through without bennifiting the horse. Older horses digestive system is weakened already by age and if they are missing a considerable amount of teeth it will affect the amount they have digest effecitivly especially as the horse horses chewing theslyvia in the horses mouth reacts with the food to trigger enzymes essential to to the horse to make the most of what he's eating, so it's better to give them less and often as it increasess the chance of more of it getting digested ;), plus it's one of the feeding rules to feed little and often :D

your horse looks very well for it's age, i wouldn't worry!
