I fell off and got trod on last week, ive got a bruised calf and ankle, its very swollen, but no bone injuries.

It feels like a dentist has jagged it, the entire area is numb. ( the area about the size of a hoof )

Will the sensation come back? Im hoping its just some flesh nerve damage and they will repair, but im worried it wont!

Its only been a week, and although its less painful and the bruising is very prominient, I still have no feeling.

I have a numb patch on my bum from a prevoious fall, landed square on my bum and presumed had injured my coccyx, and the nerve damage there being related to the coccyx and not the actual flesh.

What do you think? will the feeling come back? anyone else every had this?

Thanks for reading!! :o

Have you been to doctors if not go just to be safe and they may be able to give you something to help. Arnica gel you can get from chemists is great to get rid of bruising.

Thanks for your advice :)

Everytime ive been to the docs/hospital, they say theres nothing they can do as nothing is ever broke :o:(

Im 23 just now, i wonder if by the end of my riding career ill just be completely numb :p :p

When the pins and needles start and it's mostly at night early morning, you will look back and wish, sounds like muscle and tissue damage, had the same with my hand when my young dog broke my finger, bone hurt but not the muscle or tissue until becuse badly bruised, but when that started clearing had months of pins and needles as everything slowly healed. And at the moment I have small hole in my right shin bone where he's managed to stick metal part of electric fencing post as he ran past me,with it in his mouth so hobbling around with a very sore leg and he's only 20 months old:eek::eek::eek:

I had a bad fall and injured my hip and left side. Couldn't feel some of it for a couple of months but its come back now.

I have a spot on my right thigh about the circumference of a tennis ball this is numb. I came off a very hot TB at a dead gallop and my tuck and roll left me with a scrape all down my right arm and a bruise that went from my hip to my knee. It swelled up incredibly and it didn't help that I went off another horse 3 days later and broke my back (it was a rough week).

Anyway, the spot I'm left with consists of muscle and nerve damage, so I'm told. Stretching exercises helped it to work better as it was rather tight for a couple of years but it's no bother now except it feels odd. The back healed up fine - it was a very stable fracture and I was in fact back on a horse within 2 weeks (don't tell my doctor though).

Being a Monty Python fan, I refer to the spot as my gamey leg and assume that everyone else would rather eat Johnson. :p

I had a bad fall hunting about ten years ago. Horse stood on my inner thigh, no major deep wounds but took all the skin off. It was horrifically swollen, bruised and numb. I saw specialists who said that the nerve endings were damaged hence why it was numb and that it would get better over time.
Its now ten years on and yes the numbness has got better although not perfect. That thigh is still about an inch larger than the other one and I have rather nasty scarring and it feels very odd to touch (pins and needles type feeling) but my theory is that I was lucky just to suffer that - could have been much worse! :)

I have a odd sensation area on my thigh from a really nasty bite about 6 years ago. It isn't really numb but isn't right if you know what I mean. Hospital said at the time (or rather about 3 months after it happened) that it was fatty tissue damage - fat in my legs, surely not! I have a similar area in my back from a fall but I am twice your age if not more.

Your second post made me laugh out loud.

Hope it heals well and quickly.

I'm a human doctor so I guess I'm qualified to answer this one. The likelihood is, is it will come back you've probably tweaked a nerve which is now being squidged. when the swelling settles, the nerve should start to recover. Nerves recover at about 1cm per month so it can take some time...

Funnily my foot wast touched, I dont know if the blood just seeped down there to make that bruised. The red bit with lack of bruising is where its numb. Its hard to see but my foot actually green!

I had a fall where I gave my knee a real good whack. Realised a couple of days later that the top of my foot was numb, was only apparent when I lay on my stomach in bed as my feet would stick over the end and I realised that I could only feel the mattress against the one foot! Never did get any pins and needles but was at least 6 months before I had any feeling back in it.

Wow that's such an odd one! Especially because it wasn't quickly noticable! Glad the feeling did come back though, albeit eventually! Gives me hope!
