After horse was out on loan and got kicked and i got the vet out to come look at his leg, he has got a cut down the leg where he was kicked which is white at the minute but i think the hairs are going to grow back black hopefully. She also said the swelling might take months to go down or it might not ever go down. The vet said it was just a blow to the bone and there was no soft tissue damage. Has any one else experienced anything similar and if so what are my chances of it completely going down because at the minute it is very noticable.
Also would it put you off buying a horse if it had an old injury on its leg like this? as he was going to be getting sold next year when my youngster gets broken in,

In humans a sub periostial haematoma - that is where the blood is trapped under the surface layer of the bone - can take six months or more to resolve and will sometimes never completely disappear. I would guess it would be the same with horses and other animals.

It wouldn't put me off buying a horse.

My mare has 2 bumps on her hind cannons where she and another horse got locked together booting each other. Like yours she had a but of a cut which healed well and the hair grew back in the original colour. It is prone to being greasy there but if I keep an eye on it, it's manageable.

She had quite big bumps to start with - they were hard and cool and I thought they would never go down. You can hardly notice them now. It wouldn't put me off buying if the horse was what I wanted in other ways.
