We have had enough rain to float an arc. The fields are awash and I don't have enough stables to bring everyone in. They all live out quite happily, it is my fields rather than the ponies I am worried about! My filly (18 months) and gelding are in a little paddock which is really suffering. My colt (6 months), 2 year old coblet and 3 year old Shire are in a mahoosive field which other than the gate is OK. Do you think I would be OK putting them all in the big field.... obviously from the perspective of putting the colt and the filly together. The colt isn't showing any real coltish behaviour and will be gelded in the next month or so, wondering if I should risk it til then!? :)

I would'nt risk putting the colt in with your filly, he may not be showing any signs yet, but he may still be capable of doing the deed.
could you fence your big field into three, putting the colt iwith a gelding, in the first bit, and your filly in the third bit, so there is a paddock between them?
Or alternativly stable the colt during the day and the filly at night, so they dont come into contact.

Hmmm, still none the wiser!! :D My instinct says don't do it but at 6 months I know he 'should' be ok!

And to section the big field into smaller sections kind of defeats the object... the reason its not getting churned is because it is so big...chopping it up just creates the same problem as I have in the smaller paddock!!

Stabling not an option either!

Plenty of people who thought their 6 month old colt would be "ok" but have been caught out.
You say you dont have anough stables to bring everything in, so i took it you would have at least a couple to have at least one or two in at atime.
I wouldnt chance it myself, but they are your horses, so up to you.
