My cob gelding has always been fairly clean around his boy parts (and prior to owning him I've always ridden mares!). However when I went up this afternoon I could see a huge lump of gunk visible on the end of his willy - once he'd finished his dinner I investigated further and oh my goodness, yuck. Thick black and brown-y gunk all over everything. Having never seen this before I'm slightly at a loss for what to do - can I just clean it with warm water? Thankfully he is very laid back about this kind of thing. And should I be worried? Why would he suddenly be so mucky when he hasn't been before? It all looks perfectly normal other than the gunk - no lumps or dodgy looking skin.

Yeah, it's a boy thing! Either use copious amounts of warm water and a handful of cotton wool to swab out, or non perfumed aqueous cream to soak the tough, sticky bits, then flush with warm water to remove all traces. You might want to wear rubber gloves....

Thank you! Yes....rubber gloves for sure. Well I'm relieved to find it's normal. That'll be a nice job for the weekend then 😆

I had the winky washer out, to show me what to do. She recommended lambing lube, and a normal cotton dishcloth. No need for it to hang out, you just get in there. I think she described it as a handbag. It was helpful to have her demonstrate.
I have bought lambing lube…but that’s as far as I have gone so far! ; )

Actually we could do with lambing lube anyway - two of our backyard flock are due next month. So probably a good idea to have some just in case of an emergency. I'll get an extra big bottle.

Yes, definitely wear gloves. The smell gets in your pores and lingers! I found this out when my flimsy gloves split. I was almost done, so carried on. I could smell it for days despite scrubbing my hands with all sorts.

It goes a looong way back - wear long gloves 😂 Think up to the elbow

Well good grief people, you weren't wrong.....I was very glad of my Full Length Exam Gloves (XL) I was also very glad that our neighbour had starting ploughing at the opposite side of his field because it meant he was slightly too far away to see us properly! I think 200ml of lambing gel went up there, and what came out....well.

Anyway if I ever decide to take up a career in international drug smuggling, I know how I'll be doing it.
