Does anyone else have a wimpy native that likes to be warm and cosy? It is 13 degrees here in Derbys with the sun out but a keen cold wind...went home to check my boy expecting him to be too hot as I left him in his mw from last night and he is fine...warm but not hot at all!!!
He was in a right mood last night because I had him in a light weight and was too cold! He is the only horse I have ever had that has the ability to be mardy because he is too cold!
I don't like rugging a native but have tried him without in Autumn and even winter and he was the horse from hell...pacing up and down and really un-happy and moody towards me...so he lives in his mw now and is happy...very strange and I can assure you it is not me being soft either!

Mines not a native, but is very wimpy, he had his stable rug on for the first time last night and was so warm and toasty, he was still asleep this morning when i went down!! AND he hadn't finished his hay, which is unheard of! I get "the look" if a suitable warm rug is not attached to him if its cold!

Pottamus, I truly can sympathise. My newfie yearling is rugged at night now as he HATES being cold, and cold and wet is a huge no-no! SWUO is fine however, it's just Luke who's a big girls blouse!

I was given a big guilt trip last month for turning my girl out in the rain without a rainsheet on- she came in and was shivering all over, knees trembling and everything! It wasn't even cold though, just wet. She seemed much happier when I put her fleece on to dry her off and will now ensure she's rugged if it looks like raining!

What a wimp! This is the same horse who wintered out all last year with no rug at all (but did turn into a great big wooly donkey in the process!) but due to enforced box rest has turned into a wimpy stabled pony! She actually enjoys coming in from the field to her stable!

My Highland lived out all her life until I got her four weeks ago. She is now treated the same as all the other livery horses; she comes in at nights and she absolutely loves it! She has her wafer thin stable rug on and stands there like a little hairy version of the big warmbloods surrounding her!
