Does anyone else remember the competitions WH Smiths used to run back in the 80s where you had to answer questions and think up a poem and you could win either a pony or a boat? I used to enter every year (even though I already had a horse) I wonder what heppened to the winners?

I half remember one of my poems

something something something something
something something oughter
Susan on her pony
and Peter on the water

Can't inagime why I didn't win

I know someone who won a pony in that competion. It was a fantastic jumping pony and won everything around for years to come.

Yes, I remember them

One of the local horse shows used to offer a pony or £50 as first prize in a raffle too, my mates and I used to club together for a ticket, heaven knows what we would have done if we had won, there was about a dozen of us

I think it was fixed as the winner always seemed to be a showjumper or similar

I used to enter that too, yes, you're right, I never won either

A Steam Engine Rally here had a Raffle for a pony every year and I always spent all my pocket money on tickets. Yep, right again - I never won

Were they really still going in the 80s? I thought even being able to win a goldfish from the fair was outlawed long before then.

I thought the Barbie one was actually the use of a pony for a year - misleading advertising.
