I started riding again 7-8 months ago after a 5 year break from horses (I'm 22) and had been feeling great about my progress, I'm now jumping 1.20 comfortably, have had several great XC lessons and currently focusing on dressage. The problem comes with a couple of the yard girls who I overheard ripping me to shreds - everything about me - my riding gear, my hair, the degree I'm doing (English Lit) and obviously my riding came under scrutiny too. They hadn't noticed me helping out one of the littlies with cleaning the water drinker in her pony's stable so were just around the corner openly slagging me off and I heard every word. They have taken to watching my lessons now and I just feel myself tensing up while they stand there staring at me ride. Am I a total wimp to just feel really deflated by their nastiness?

They're just jealous!use it as an incentive(sp?) to train harder and improve further - you are doing amazingly well already!!
you should be proud that you have made such an impression on their lives that they feel it neccesary to talk about you!!

Oh people can be so nasty!!

I agree, case of the green eyed monster. Smile at them as you have your lessons and dont let them get to you.

You are doing amazingly well and they are not worth worrying about, concentrate on how well you are doing with your riding and education. They are not worth thinking about.

exactly!!! LOL they're jealous, and jealousy does breed ugly unfortunately, smile sweetly at them knowing full well what they are, and enjoy the ned you're obviously doing so well with!

Definitely, definitely jealous! You are doing fantastically and suspect are genuinely talented. Must be very irritating to them that you have returned to riding after a long break, are still young and yet can ride better than them (oh and by the way are cleverer than them too!I bet they didn't go to uni). Just ignore them I think.if you tackle them I think it will make things more difficult in future - although it was my 1st instinct!

i think it is blatently obvious what is going on here, you have nice riding gear, lovely hair, very bright, and your riding is coming along a treat.....am i right?
yep, all the things that ugly, nasty little witches like them hate, coz you are everything they are not, but would like to be. jealous little mares like them don't deserve your time, swing your pretty hair as you go past and smile

I think they're JUSTIFIED in their comments. How dare you show them up with your riding skills when their's are obviously lacking enough to make them insanely jealous!!!

Sour grapes - ignore them, they're not worth wasting energy worrying about it. I know it's easier said than done but please don't take their b*tching to heart.

Unfortunately this horse riding malarky that we all love tends to attract the jealous types.

My first instinct was to say ask them if they like the scenery lol but that would probably make things worse

Let them get on with their petty sniping. You know you are doing well and enjoying your riding. That is what matters

Thanks you lot. Going to avoid the witches from now on, I think they're determined to dislike me - just feel a bit of an idiot for having been so friendly to them both before I realised they hated me. I plan to feign deafness next time the worst one asks me to hold her horse while she performs a ballet trying to mount it!

Wot, who said that...

Deafness is a good plan. And as Ellies_mum2 said - you go girl. And certainly don't look back at those jealous numpties.

I can never understand why people have to be like this. We all enjoy horses so lets encourage each other.
Some people are so sad and I would say they are jealous like the others have said.
Hold your head high and be proud you are doing very well.
