Wind Turbines - Your opportunity to take part in a survey

Well, i've done it, but not sure if my answers will help as there are no turbines near me. However, there was a planning application for 3 quite nearby a couple of years ago but the company applying withdrew the application. No doubt it will reappear sometime.

Done!

22 have just gone up near us (about 80m tall), about 1/4 mile away from our hacking route & non of the horses have noticed!!

I actually like watching them :D

Well if they want to put them on my land more than welcome to do a deal with them.

I loathe them with every fibre of my being! This is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Wind farms are a blight on the landscape; they destroy property values; they are an inefficient form of power; they have now been proven to cause an INCREASE in temperature on the ground beneath them. They are lining wind power companies' pockets to the tune of hundreds of millions of pounds. I won't engage in argument on this subject. I've done enough research on my own to form these opinions. I had thought, at one point, that they should be put off shore, but now I have my doubts about that, as well.

Good post ,I think the wheels are slowly coming of this part of what is the most expensive con in modern history , people need somehing to worry about, our
politicans need something to tax us and control us with and this climate change BS is the perfect vehicle....

Agree digesters and windfarms... only produce 16 % of Germany electricity they had to extend their nuclear production as they couldnt make enough electricity going green!. The only beneficiary are the landowner and supplier. Tax payer is hammered as usual. You cant store electricity. But I agree with you..Green tax I think not!!!Tourism industry down the pan! Anyhow I mustnt go on I thought it was good until nuclear chaps explained it all to me....! Completely change of heart on this one. We have been marketed well by EU etc

Total scam, only people for are land owners, companies and those who are in the dark.
Last year, local wind farm produced 16% of the amount of energy they told the gov they would produce when in planning.
They pay the land owner upwards of £25,000 per turbine per year for 25 years.
The government pays the windfarm companies to turn them off when it is too windy and too cold.

I could go on and on, its the biggest scam of them all!!!!

I hate them too unless they are out at sea - why they have to stick them up near people beats me! We found out last week a neighbor of ours has sneakily put in planning permission for 2 of these 165ft monstrosities just infront of another neighbors house - literally 300yds - my neighbor is gutted as it means she'll never be able to sell her house, which she was planning on doing in a couple of years when her husband retires, not to mention the low frequency noise these things emit!! She was in tears as she lives in a beautiful chocolate box cottage with a stunning garden that she spends all her time in - with these things just in front of her garden there is no-where she can go on her property to get away from the sight of them - they'll tower over everything!!!! Our whole valley is fuming as lots of farms look onto the field they are going to be put in - but the reason this area was picked is because companies need a minimum number of complaints to get them thrown out - there are not enough people living in our valley/area to meet that minimum number! We also gets thousands of migrating geese flying up this valley in winter, not to mention peregrines, barn owls, curlew etc - they don't care!!, and the site is on a peat bog so will require hundreds of tons or more of concrete - how they are going to get it all down our little lane which is little more than a track I hate to think!!!:(

All those against what form of energy do you suggest?

Well if they find the sort of deposits that have made it possible to half gas bills in the USA
then shale gas seems to be a good bet some say there maybe up to 50 years supply or clean natural gas under our country!!!! ... otherwise the only way will be nuclear or ever more expensive imported gas ,coal or oil .... as the main fail with wind is it doesnt blow all the time hence the need for proper powerstations to run wastefully as a back up 24/7 ...

I'm 500 metres from nearest of 22 new turbines 110 metres high, not against them actually, and wouldn't have problem if they had kept their word on adhering to BHS recommended distances from roads and public rights of way. Carefully trained the horses to them as they were constructed, the problems occur because when wind is in non prevailing direction the darn things blades rotate to 45 metres from the road and decend towards you with a loud whooshing noise that even makes the 22 year old move out into the road a bit in effort to keep an eye on it. This is not recommended in traffic :-( and, before anyone mentions obedience to the leg, all 3 horses are normally very polite and obedient, traffic proof and non spooky. Just another 150 metres further away from the road would, I'm sure, make a big difference as the ones 1/2 mile further on which are about 250 metres from the road don't cause a problem whichever way they are rotating.

Great idea perfect11s, also all the junk mail that gets delivered, but if we use energy it has to be produced somewhere.

Shale gas ?? Do you really want some private company fracking near your water supply and the water that fish and livestock depend on ?
The only alternative to wind is nuclear power, so do you want a power station instead of turbines ?

BTW, excess electricity from wind turbines can be stored until it is needed.

Shale gas and wave power?
Looks like we’ll be sitting in the dark in a few years then.

Wave power is years away from being a mature viable technology and the grid doesn’t exist to bring this power inland to populations centres (also the reason offshore wind is so expensive) so when people say “put them offshore” then you’d better like pylons;)

Onshore turbines are mature and viable and easy to plug into the existing electrical grid. They are not perfect in anyway but part of a solution. If we don’t start now it will be too late. My nags are currently in a field that borders a wind turbine, I’ve yet to have a problem. I hack past it daily and they snooze less than 100m from it. Never had an issue, only wish it was my turbine and not my neighbours:D

There you go fixed the typos :D
