Wind Turbines

Hi. Does anyone on here have any experiences with local wind turbines? The property next to our stables has applied for an 18m high wind turbine that will be 180m from the road. Lots of people are objecting, but the general thought is that it will be approved. I am worried about it spooking the horses and making noise. Does anyone have one close to them that can put my fears at ease? Thanks

Someone posted a couple of beautiful photos on a previous thread about turbines a while back showing her riding beneath one. Denmark has many turbines and twice as many horses as people, don't think its an issue there. Its like anything new, introduced carefully, horses can get used to anything. We have a helicopter landing pad next to one of our bridleways. We also used to ride under big pylons that made a lot of buzzing and clicking noises. Horses were wary the first couple of times, but soon passed under without any reluctance.

my friend and i ride underneath a very large windturbine, the horses are fine with it, it does make a humming noise when the wind is high, but the horses soon get used to it. There is also a showground near us with smaller turbines in the field nextdoor. The only problems people seem to have is when they are frightened of what they think their horses will do, the horses dont seem to mind !

doubt there will be any issue as the local horses will see it being erected & its not such a surprise for them, we never heard the one next to our grazing exept on very windy days when you heard the wind (same noise as through trees). the only issue we ever had was the twit of a cob galloping headlong into the field shelter wall as he was chasing the shadow the blade made across the field with his nose on the ground.

I have 3 full size ones half a mile away. We do hear them quite a bit, but it doesn't bother the horses at all. We have ridden right up and under them. The horses were totally unimpressed.

None of the horses in my area seem the least bit bothered.

One got put up on one of our most-used bridleway last year and we all panicked thinking the horses would have several thousand hissy fits.

On our yard for definate (35 horses) there have been no issues at all and I also hack out with a couple of people from neighbouring yards and none of them have mentioned anything either. My horse is far more bothered by the suspicious stone they have blocking a gateway, the foolish creature. Even in really high winds when the noise freaks me out. Aoibhin, that sounds like exactly the thing my idiot animal would do.
