anyone else thinking of cancelling their ride later due to the horrendous wind? my new boy seems to hate this weather. Think I might lunge tonight instead, if I can get any sense out of him at all.
Meant to be going to a SJ clinic with a fellow livery. Have cancelled as I am too wimpy to drive the box in this wind!! I'm quite new to box driving in my defence despite having racked up 300 miles last weekend and having 2 saintly horses to take!!
B did not like the wind this morning and was sooo cute making an effort to behave and not run away from the tree monsters that i had to give her extra cuddles. New boy appears not to have noticed that it is windy! I will be riding him at home instead of at clinic.
Was going to get my daughter to do some groundwork with the pony tonight, however, I have visions of him carting her across the yard and out the gate :s maybe tomorrow!
One of mine doesn't bat an eyelid in this so depending on how it is later on may ride him. Another one scares himself witless in these conditions even on his own in the field so no way will he be being tacked up and ridden.
I've braved it and been out for a 2 hour hack with a friend, we even trod on a blowing carrier bag. Mu boy is a star! Down side is I had a bit of ear ache :-(
I saw a wheelie bin being blown down the road this afternoon with much banging & clattering. I was mighty glad I was in the car & not on the horse. It would have taken a very brave horse to cope with it, the road was narrow & there was no getting out of its' way.High winds are too dangerous for hacking in my opinion, you never, ever know what is coming next.
Had a lesson on my new lass today in a howling gale and in the end torrential rain....she was a total star even when all the wheel barrows lined up against the fence line outside the school blew over....I was quite happy and could have carried on for another hour but my poor instructor started doing the sniffing, shivering trying to tuck his head into his coat thing)
I hate riding in the wind... prefer rain personally turns my boy into a right twit... BUT I rode earlier in the wind as I was buying a new saddle today and I didn't actually die!! (Which suprised me slightly) and I now have a beautiful new saddle... which I spent way more than I originally planned on... my wintec synthetic purchase turned into an albion... (HOW DID THAT HAPPEN????)
I lunged.... after an unplanned dismount last Friday I'm still sore so took the easy option - or so I thought. Maggie decided she would 'forget' all of the slowing down commands, so there was a lot more trotting than planned until we 'remembered' the 'aaaaaaaaaaaand walk' command. Then another 20 mins until we remembered the 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand staaaaaaaaand'!!!!!!
Stubborn mare!!!! (And yes, she does know all the commands!)
