I think we may have the windiest dog ever!
Gray is now 15 months old, staff x mastif, and is booked in to be neutered in 4 weeks. When we got him, 3 months ago, he was fed on Wagg but, according to vet, that's a mainly cereal food so he is now on Scatts own brand (recommended by vet, high meat content but much cheaper than 'designer' brands) with the occasional Nature's Diet sensitive chicken/fish and rice.
Gray's wind is horrendous, sometimes it makes your eyeballs melt! The other day, he let off a corker that was so loud, I blamed hubby!
Does anybody have any ideas about calming it? Would charcoal help (assuming it's available, and palatable, for dogs)? Would a more 'wet meat' diet help? I'm hoping it will improve when he has his plums removed, but will be speaking to the vet about it.

Having him neutered will make absolutely zero difference: how could it? Totally different systems.

Is it smelly? I have no idea about Scatt food, but Nature Diet is pretty fab.

One of my youngsters farts audibly, it makes me die! Maybe it's just his conformation?

I'm delighted your vet didn't sell you Science Plan and told you Wagg was rubbish. Good for him!

My thoughts, with the neutering, is he should become calmer! Some of the worst windy explosions come whilst playing 'let's see how many times I can run up and down the stairs, then up and down the hall, as fast as I can whilst dad tries to catch me 'coz I've picked up clothing from the laundry!'
At the moment, he's stretched out on the sofa, fast asleep, alternating between silent, but deadly, farts and snoring like an old man!

Hate to say it but Nature Diet made my living room have a dead rat up dogs **** aroma. Mine just didnt get on with it for some reason they are fed raw and I only got it as it was on offer.
Dylan regualry lets one rip (loudly) when excited.

Don't suppose you can post ingrediants of dog food on here can you with percentages?

You can give charcoal tablets or capsules to absorb gas, it works very well, one or two per day. It does sound like the food though is a trigger. Fish 4 dogs or another grain free food may suit your dog better, fish being easily digestible is less likely to cause gas. Better in than out though as the saying goes!

Thanks all. I like the idea of a raw diet, my parents used to do it years ago with GSDs as they had a friendly butcher! Hubby and kids aren't as keen on the idea though. When our old Staff bitch (RIP) was younger, I used to feed her on packs of pet mince as she refused to eat anything remotely like dried food, even well mixed in and drowned in gravy! When she got into her teens she couldn't manage it and would only eat Butcher's tripe and chicken loaf. She had bad teeth, according to the vet it was because she had soft food.
I'm going to try and get some charcoal and will have a look at the cereal content in Gray's grub.
I appreciate he may just be one of life's farters, but, by golly he pongs!

aah superted, this did make me giggle a little :o only thing to do is experiment with a few good quality foods really and see what suits. Also be sure you arent over feeding and he isnt getting any 'extras'.

We have one, who admittedly is 'speshul', and when he needs to go out he comes over to you, sits in front of you, squeezes out a wee squeaky one and then grins:rolleyes: We always know when he needs to 'go' tho i suppose:rolleyes:

Raw fed properly should help teeth not hinder them with all the bone munching!

must be the breed! we have a 15 month old staffy x mastiff and i have never in all my days smelled such a rancid gassy ar*e! its not only the smell but the noise too!

we used to feed him wag, which made him worse. now hes on natures diet, which seems to be helping a wee bit..... but not much!

I'm another that can't remeber the last time my dogs farted on a raw diet. Might be worth a try. Even nature diet upsets one of mine's tummy.
