My cob has windgalls. In the winter they do not really effect him but as soon as the summer comes they get worse.

Most days he is fine, he's hacked out, schooled and will walk out to his field fine with ease and this will go on for days, but then other days he can be hacked out, put out in the field as normal but his legs swell.

Whenever he is stabled (which he is in the day) i put stable bandages on, as he appears more comfortable when i walk him out. If i think they may come up or if they do, i give him devils claw to ease any discomfort (and this does work).

I feel i put so much effort in on a daily basis, but why does it happen on some days and not others, when his routine is so simular???

Does anyone else have any advice to help him/me or prevent them??

HELP!!!! :(

consusion from the road can affect them, i put stable wraps on my horses windgalls when hes in to keep them down and stop fluid building up. global herbs do a product called wind gall which is designed to help the synovial fluid and stop build up. iv used it with good results.

yes it does help, its smelly stuff though so fussy eaters might be put off. if they get really bad stick to walking on the roads and trotting and cantering on soft ground that will help reduce them.

Have been feeding it to ours for about a month and I THINK his windgall looks reduced. I t certainly doesn't puff up as much. Have also just got some back on track leg wraps which were recommended to me. I can't tell you yet if they are effective as he has only worn them once.

It's such a tricky situation, as everyone has different advise. Apart from that he is a very happy horse and wants to please. I will try that global herb but it is very expensive, how much do you give a day?

I followed the loading dose suggested on the tub.It does stink so only buy the smallest amount to start in case your horse won't eat it. That said ours seems to love it!

i think thats a 3kg tub, the 1kg is much cheaper!

My boy has HUGE windgalls from his days as a carriage horse.. when I first got him, before I knew how to manage them, he went lame every now and then. I asked the vet for advice and she recommended I use a joint supplement (I use Feedmark Extraflex, quite expensive but I get in bulk from the shows where they give 50% off ;) and 3.5kg tub about 3-4 months.. oh and he's never been lame since!) But to stop them filling, as they always do when he's in his stable, I use magnetic stable boots. I've tried a few different ones and the Bioflow ones suit my boy best as the big Veredus or Equilibrium ones make him itch and they end up recked! Honestly if I don't put them on his ankles are 3 times the size in the morning!!
Again, not cheap, but they are still in good nick after 2 years and Bioflow will replace them half price if you send them back.
:)

feed clivers - buy off ebay shop. - clivers are a natural herb and they really really work - took my mares windgalls down to virtually nothing. she has lovely legs in winter and second warm weather out legs puff up. clivers fantastic - they help the lymphantic system to drain.

thank you all so much for your advice!! i had no idea there was windgall suppliments, i do give him joint suppliments but i am def going to get windgall stuff and all of you are saying it works, i will try anything, i feel like a bad mum when they come up
