Following the Thread i started the other day http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=8533505#post8533505

Friend had farrier up yesterday, horse was still lame and had been kept in for 24 hours. Farrier noticed a swelling on the back of the fetlock that appeared to be tender. The farrier has commented that the swelling is over a tendon, and could be a windgall. The swellign is in exactuly the same place as a friends horses swelling was, after she ruptured her DDFT.Friend is callign the vet today for advice. He will have been lame a week this saturday and is no better. Everything i have heard about windgalls, states that they either dont cause lameness or the lameness is short lived, in most cases.

I have to say that most horses on the yard appear to have at least one windgall, and have not been lame with them. It leads me to think that there is maybe more going on here. I have told friend that the onyl way to find out is to have the vet scan the tendon and see if there is damage.

Has anyone else had experience of thsi sort of lameness? and swelling in that area? The swellign was not evident prior to the horse being kept in, however now he in you can clearly see it.

Nadia's windgall flared up last year and did make her lame. We had x-rays done and it was found that she had a tear. It was quite a while of box rest and cold hosing 3/4 times per day to get it down.
