My boy has always had small windgalls on both hind legs. For the 1st 6 months I had him he was unshod, but trimmed regularly. Since then I have had him shod and my farrier had made his hind shoes square in the toe and this seems to have really helped him- fluid has softened and gone down greatly. He has in the past month had 24 hour turnout back as the land has improved- I went to check him this evening and his windgalls are back up and rock solid again :( he isn't lame, he doesn't react to them being pressed etc. I'm putting him on potassium salt but was wondering if to get him shod with lateral extensions? Does anyone have any experience?

No experience, but also have a horse with windgalls - which seem to get worse in the heat. I didn't realise different shoeing could help. Will watch responses to your question with interest :-).
