Rather late due to life occurring in the mean time
Arrived what seemed like very late, at mid afternoon Friday- we usually arrive for the 3 dayers on the weds! Ponies all settled fine, once we removed the neurotic one from where he was, over looking the polo pitches, to the other side where he could see normal driving trail scenes
Dressage wasn't till 3.55, and dads wasn't till 5.30
So spent the morning grooming for some other people (including Rooster, who I had for a short while before he was broken to drive last year
)
Pip warmed up for dressage in his usual fashion, and the trot work was genuinely pretty nice. However, he didn't stand. There are 4 halts in the test, and we got between 1 and 3 for them near enough
Score was therefore down the class to where we'd wanted to be, in 6th place out of not a huge amount more.
Onto cones- least said the better. He went badly, I drove badly, we got a lot down and were quite slow. This didn't help or overnight placing
Father B did his standard standard dressage and cones
leaving him 3rd in the class of 3, though all still quite close.
Sunday came, and though the obstacles were lovely and flowing having only the day before to learn them was a bit concerning as I have selective memory I'm sure
Pip made section A easily- he's quite funny, he decides he wants to go fast, then after a couple of mins tried to slow down, the whole way along! Just about made the walk which was a bit close to call, so must try harder! HR of 60 which is frustrating as dads ponies on 1/2 the workload manage to have less, but not actually a concern
First 2 obstacles were in trees, which he likes
First went well, and 2nd which was on rough ground, Lizziej did well to keep us down on
Though it was rougher and tighter than expected.
3 was a nice flowing, flat one, and he managed to go nicely through that for him. 4 was tight and he reverted to the I don't want to do this pony, but 5 was a bit of an improvement. 6 was a (deep!) water, and we lost about 5 seconds on the fastest through there as when the carriage gets heavier, he tends to back off and go slower where others plow on forwards. Finally 7 had a bit of a bridge in it, and after we located to final gate while coming into it
we were finished
Got back in time to watch Dad though and he had a good round for what I managed to see
Results finally came out- and though we were still 6th overall
He was 2nd on the marathon
That's what I've really been trying to work on- I know he can do a dressge test, and on paper we can do cones, so lots of pats for the pony.
Dad had won the marathon, and most obstacles individually, so he bagged his national champs qualification- now I need to find one from somewhere!
pictures of dad and dog who I think had a great weekend if he could talk- none of me
:
Big thanks to LizzieJ who came with us and as always was a big help and vital part of the team!
Onwards and upwards- next driving trials is Sandringham at the end of June, so hopefully enough time for Pip to (re)learn how to halt
