Yes I know he's a horse but I'm sat at home feeling a bit bad, it's pretty damn windy here, who has brought in and who has left their horses to tough it out tonight!?

I have left out. My boy is naked. Friends horse is rugged. Bir nervous as she is away. Hope I have done the right thing.

Umm me, perhaps it's cause I have a shire x and it would take a pretty strong tornado to blow him away ;-)

Seriously though, I've done the worrying thing, I've even driven up to yard at four in the morning cause I couldn't sleep for worrying. Do you know where horses were..... bang in middle of field, stuffing their faces!!!

Two of ours are in but it's nothing to do with the wind. Sister's horse is on 6 weeks box rest/restricted T/O and mine's in to keep him company and oh, because he's now a bit lame too, possibly because the boss horse has decided after 16 years in the same field together he now hates him so is beating him up! Therefore, he's in for his own safety and that of his his aggressor's who, as a result of chasing my horse, received a nice kick to his leg.
Horses. Who'd have 'em!

I was once told it is safer for them to be out as they will avoid falling debris and can gallop if they get a fright. Whereas in a stable they may get worried and if any strutural damage happens to the stable they are trapped.

So mine our out! However I am a bit worried as I let the fatty out of her paddock (she normally gets out for 9 hours a day) as I didnt want the electric fence to blow down into her and her to get tangled. So now I am worried she pigs out a colics :(

Worry Worry Worry

Mine's out with a light weight combo on. Worried endlessly about her last night - listening to the howling winds and lashing rain - but she was right as rain this morning and not put out by it at all. Unlike me..... yawn :D

Mine are in due to the fact the electric fence posts wouldn't stay in the ground and were all snapping!

I have left mine in and do feel guilty as my TB hates being confined for too long but the weather is absolutely appalling with us, branches coming down everywhere, and the wind had blown the fences down in a few places. I think I would feel guilty if he was out too - you can't win! Hopefully things will be calmer tomorrow

Mine is out unrugged, braving the lovely Scottish weather! I braved the weather and falling trees earlier to go see her didnt bother to bring her in for her feed she doesnt get much and wont fade away missing one feed anyway much safer to leave her in the field than battle to the yard for a handfull of chaff! They were all happily grazing away not even bothering about the wind and rain although I do feel sorry for them in this weather its not nice out there tonight!

Mine came in when a tree blew down on the fence.
There are many big trees around us, and they are safer in the stone barn, where they are eating hay, nice and relaxed.
No rugs, though.

Mine are out unrugged. Its not cold and they are in the corner field with hedges on 3 sides. I did put hay out though as there isnt much grass left.

I drove past a horse in a lw rug earlier and the wind was just blowing up inside the rug so pretty useless.

Mine are out in rugs. I did consider bringing the mare in, but I have two huge trees right at the back of where my stables are and I'm more concerned about that falling down on the stables. Also both mine hate being in, so I think I've done the right thing.....

My mareas in but only as we took the opportunity to switch our turnout round we would normally leave it till end of sept but decided to do it early due to weather and the fact our grazing is pretty bare so gives it more time to recover ....our field is pretty exposed and i was greeted with the elec fencing flat to the floor this morning it was howling last night...

im in central scotland. its pretty windy - trees falling down etc.
mines are out in the field. feeling very worried tho. they cant come in as there's a panel off the roof from the last bad winds we had.
youngster looked like was ready for a rug earlier but she'll have to cope for now. had a rug on oldie for a week now and it wasnt moving earlier.
would worry as much if they were in no doubt

I feel guilty leaving my nervous mare out. But in truth she's much more nervous stabled, I honestly think she'll be far less stressed out with the herd.

Still, I know when I hear the wind roaring tonight I'm going to be worrying.

Not at all cold either. And the last storm was much worse, ( so far!) in this part of Scotland , anyway.

I'm envying your chocolate, as I don't fancy taking the car out for supplies.

Safer out I think and it is certainly not cold enough to rug yet. Mind you I am down South and I don't think we are getting it half as bad as other more northern areas.

What's it like up in Scotland? I'm in North Yorks and although not cold in the slightest it's just ridiculously windy!

I'm just outside Edinburgh and its ridicuously windy here too, very strong gusts. Passed a few falled trees on way to yard and its raining too. Its not nice at all, my yard is up in the hills and very exposed although the field is quite sheltered so the horses are ok. Hopefully the wind calms down tomorrow.

My guys are in, too many old trees lining the paddocks that they shelter under and we lost the top of one in the last storm so not for risking it.

Field are also VERY soggy so not wanting them poached this early in the season.

Will admit I felt quite sorry for them but ones a wimpy TBxWB and the other is a 2o yrs old so that my excuses :D

Mines out with a rug on, pretty windy, but she'd rather be out! No bothered at all by it & has a hedge at the back to shelter!

Yes, they have been in yesterday night and tonight. I am not bothered about them being cold or anything like that as it's mild and dry, but I worry about branches of trees falling, or electric fencing flapping and touching them causing panic, or them generally careering about more than usual and getting hurt.
