I popped into the feedshop earlier to pick up some more conditioning cubes for G and Spillers slow release to swap him over now the grass is starting to come through and I spied the Winergy feeds which have been slowly appearing over the last few weeks.

There were some open bags (with samples but silly me didn't take one) and it looked like interesting stuff. I came back and had a look online and I like the idea of high fibre, high oil and low starch for G in particular, but the website doesn't give much indication of which feed would suit which workload (sorry if its flaming obvious and i'm being an idiot).

I was thinking about testing out the Medium Energy one. Has anyone/is anyone using this one and what workload is the horse doing?

G does about 5/6 hours of schooling/lunging per week, plus hacking/roadwork and in the next few weeks clinics and aff. dressage weekly or fortnightly. He does have a little trouble keeping condition which is why I have my reservations about the Low Energy one but I don't want him going nutty on the Med.

I dont actually use the low or the medium, i use the growth for my wee man. But wanted to say, that considering the nature of the feed, there technically isnt anything in it that would make a horse go nutty.... and i would say that he probably would need medium, particularly as you say hes not the best at keeping condition, even if its just for the end of the winter and then you swapped down to low for the summer...

I'd go for the medium..... possiby the high with the amount of work....

Lovely feed (wont feed anything else now!) and it does put on condition too!

I figured as much with the high oil/fibre and low starch but its always worth checking - i've fed low levels of supposedly non-fizzy or low energy feeds before and he's been overly excitable. Feeding has become a bit of a minefield because he's developed an allergy to barley which brings him out in rather fetching lumps.

Thanks for the suggestions though, will give the Medium a go I think.

I tried the Winergy medium on my horse, but although he eat it up to start, he then turned fussy and started leaving it, which was a pain as it wasn't cheap! Also I found he was no calmer on it then on the conditioning cubes I was using before.

I feed the med energy to my tb gelding, he is a lazy sod who previously has had trouble keeping weight on and sufferes from feed intollerences... He's a different horse on the Winergy, forward going but not silly, he has loads of 'useful' energy if that makes sense? He's also holding condition brilliantly and if anything is looking quite chunky. His coat shines like a new penny too...!

He gets 3kg a day of Winergy and nothing else, no supplements/balancers either.

My TB mare is on growth at the mo to get some weight on as she is having another growth spurt (rising 5), she just needs to look at a bag of Growth and her waistline expends - bit like me and cream cakes...!

Call/email the helpline, they are great and usually send a voucher for a free bag when you ask for advice....

It is definately an excellent feed, I have a neurotic little trakhener mare (although she is lovely!!!) and on Equilibrium she still has her spark but it comes across in a much more positive way! She is only on the low though as she is a very good doer!
